Internet web cams are already here...use them all the time to check traffic conditions, weather conditions, bird nests, etc.

Instead of robot monitors, RFID might be a better idea, more pervasive.

(It is tacitly assumed the internet-monitored robots are themselves stationed at a certain post with wireless access, while the user may roam about remotely.)
