As a type 2 diabetic who is slightly overweight and controls chronic sugar levels with insulin, I would suggest that these results are not enough of an improvement to make the taking of this drug purposeful. The side effects outweigh the 8 pounds weight loss in a 12 month period an amount which can easily be gained by better diet. One should also remember that chronic diabetes can also lead to sever muscular pain which makes regular exercises very difficult. Drug regimes on myself by a doctor using various tablets designed specifically for glucose control proved completely negative with zero sugar reduction over a period of 9 months. I would therefore suggest that giving diabetics hope that this drug with its reported side effects would in any way help is about as daft as eating a wagon load of special margarine to reduce cholesterol (a reuirement comment made by my diabetes nurse)

Note: the 8 pounds is 11 pounds minus 3 pounds reduced by the placebo takers.

Further to my previous comments I also note that the weight losses published have no corresponding percentage weight loss figures. The figures to a person weighing say 224 pounds (16 stone) would be pointless while to a 112 pound (8 stone) individual they could be more effective.

[QUOTE The drug is the first in a new generation of treatments called cannabinoid type 1 receptor blockers, which inhibit brain cells that demand food, alcohol, nicotine and other pleasure-giving substances]

But this is not the end of the world for diabetics, who are often disheartened because of their condition and feel that there is not much to be done. But this is not true! Diabetes is curable and diabetics can definitely lead a healthy and normal life like other people. All that needs to be done is incorporating some changes in lifestyle with regard to diets, exercise, weight reduction, etc. With these minor changes, diabetics can make a major difference in their lives.
