i was wondering,

does anyone who is involved anything in physics, teacher student etc, beleive in god?

cause i certainly dont and the idea of it annoys me.

be in touch

My interest in physics continually re-inforces my belief in the Islamic concept of God.

I don't believe in god either but everyone is different and it's no problem to believe in god and science. Some people even go through lengths to try and prove that the two can co-exist as one.

I believe in 'Mother Nature' not as a being (a god) but rather as a force that drives nature. I suppose the force that drives the universe.

Never mess with mother nature...she will always have her way. tongue.gif
Your fellow human (yfh)
And if "God" is higher-order, nature and structure?

But I doubt many intelectuals believe in the Jewish version of the concept of a godhead. It all depends upon what you mean. The word is multifarious and very culturally contrivercial.

You should be a little more specific! there are probably a hundred (or more) versions of god out there and each one is different! Most cannot coexist with the other gods as their belief structures are not compatible with one another.

The Christians god will not allow the worship of another god (a sin) so they (Christians) cast aside all but their one god to worship. So in general, the religious cast aside other religions gods in favor of their own. So 99% of gods are cast aside by the religious (the 1% left is different for each religion/sect/cult...), while atheists (like myself) cast aside the additional 1% of the gods, So it would seem, our similarities in what we cast aside are much greater than the differences.

Buahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's great!

Have any of you guys seen the movie Primer? (my fav) In that movie there is a description of the state inside a time machine chamber. The characters describe a dream of lying down, eyes closed, at or near the ocean, and just hearing the crashing of the waves over and over, unending.

That is God, in my opinion. The never ending cycle of energy. Energy can not be created, therefore it stands to reason that energy has always existed in some for or another (otherwise we have a violation of physics at the big bang- of course, at this point you could insert a creator God, but, I don't know about that). For me, "God," whose main purpose in our languages is generally the Prime Mover or First Cause (IMO), is whatever is left when you strip away everything but the most fundamental aspects of existence. So, for me, "God" is the cycle itself- that which causes the universe to operate (not "causes the universe to EXIST" because that would imply a creation Ex nihilo, which I don't generally buy). Kind of mystic sounding, I know. It's not supposed to be. Our definition of God is the problem, I think. But a personal God? Not likely (unless "his" "personality" is directly reflected in the operations of the cosmos... very stubborn, to say the least- I don't think the Laws of physics will ever "change their mind" enough to let me survive a volcano blast to the face... but who knows? wink.gif )

So, I believe that it is merely our tendency to classify things that separates us from our own "Godhood." We are part of all that ever was or ever will be, I would say. Boy, this sounds really Eastern to me...

A good book that was published back in 1983 is a view of God from a physics point of view. It is called God & The New Physics by Paul Davies. Great book!

Inherit the Wind. Now there is a good book.

I think I'm of those trekking the 'middle-path' here.

I don't believe in any religion, existing now in their form, functions, laws and values.
I DO however believe that if my great great granddad has no record of survival, he still existed, and thats absolutely illogical to writ him away. Thats common sense, when introspection and extrospection is concerned.

Hence, I also believe God exists.
I believe God -forsaken-abandoned- this world.
I do believe honourable people existed in the past, and that many of these scriptures were given by "actual" noble men, in comparison to all times, but what we have is no where near those scripts, guidances or laws.
These men existed, and by no way is it falsification to doubt that, when most of mankind always knew they did, to have such an impact. Its only done by those mocking as "sheep" or "monkey like dumbness" of all our ancestors, which is very malicious to say the least.

But what exists now, is a combination of mans intentions, greed's, arbitrary booksets with arbitrary hand picked and whimsically interpreted, manipulated, altered, instructions, named "RELIGION".

God? I don't think we can know God, but I believe in one God.
Unless God revealed his presence, visually, we wouldn't know.
But the mistake of most radical "science" or "atheist" minds, is no proof, no existence, which is daft to say the very least, in connection to anything.

Theres no fairies here... thats simply it.

Laws, all laws, (thats if we know them, which I can see many loops/flaws in that we're still blind [I agree with precursor562 on light, time etc]) are all governed and initiated by God.

While laws to us are relative, relative to the time we have actual evidence of observing and dealing with them, they could always have been different from the exact present state: we rely on too many "postulates" and "assumptions", through imaginatory interpretations. But in since just like in religion, just like in anything other, in mankind, I've seen daily how "BELIEF" influences and governs most routes, interpretations & decisions for them >thus their perception also becomes in the same manner, driven from these set of principles dubbed "belief".
