So what. Even if the Earth is not enveloped, it will still be simply put,"charbroiled".

I believe that by the time our sun reaches that point we will be able to build our on new sun if and when our sun leaves us. All we would need is an unlimited power sorce and I believe the universe will provide us with one if we work to find it.

In 4 -5 BILLION years I don't think magpies's "we" will exist in any familiar form.

I agree with magpie but let's not wait that long! Let's set ourselves a thousand year objective of building a better home and getting off this planet! - 3007

...and while we can't possibly predict what technologies will be available then I'd take a guess at a Halo type structure in higher orbit around the sun. Copious amounts of fusion power should do the trick.

By the way, there is no dark matter and interstellar travel is going to be even more difficult than previously thought:-

According to your "clear" anti-matter filled universe theory, Anti-matter is repulsed by the space around normal matter so the sun has no antimatter for a radius of about 4 light-years. If normal matter was to pass that point and into antimatter territory it would be annihilated.

doom and gloom! I hope youre not too right there...
