I am boiling here. I don't have an air conditioner.
This is how window shutters are on my building.

no link and i am to lazy to type it in the search engine .
Shutters are for storms . I guess they might work a little as a shade device or insulation but if it cool off at night you will need to open them.
Awnings are effective. Even small awnings directly over the window . Then couple it with a window film that reflects the light like a mirror . That is real effective . Then added insulation could help, but remember insulation works both ways so if it gets hot hot in the house it will take more to cool .

Shutters are for storms .

Have you seen images? Those may not be shutters but that's the only word I can find that's close enough to it.
