Concerning moderators, I don't know if they exist on this site short of keeping personal threats and obscene comments down to a dull scream. But a scientific forum has to understand a lot of people who will chime in, wouldn't know the scientific method if it bit them in the ***. I try not to hide under my bed when someone shows up with a different view however wildly illogical, then my own, or that more importantly can not be argued in a rational manner by different people with no vested interest in the results. Science SHOULD BE a passionate subject for every one because it's so incredible in generating an intoxication like wonder, but you will never get off the bench if all your concerned with is fear of failure. Or fear of the truth.
Perhaps I'm so worried about my nations scientific myopia, because of it's direct effect on our competitiveness as a nation. Lack of a strong scientific base, starting at the elementary education level, is a direct threat to our national security, not to mention our economic security. Yes there are some things that keep me up nights, and that is one of, if not the major issue that frightens me no end. While I have no problem with someone presenting a point of view that is, to be kind, wacko, unless the debate participants have a basic understanding of how science works, and the scientific method, then there is no guide, or "yardstick" from which to base a specific viewpoint. With no clear starting gate or finish line, all you will get is a lot of noise. It is true I have avoided this site because it seems at times the religious "pod people" have taken over. Thankfully I'm not a theologian, and I expect someone who presents any view point as "fact" to be able to defend it on an independent level.
