Science clearly can not answer any of the important questions we have instead it can only give us an educated guess that could end up being complete bs. So what is it that makes peoples faith in science so great that they are willing to believe it before they believe them selfs?

With science you don't have to believe it yourself.
You can check it yourself.

(ok so some lab set-ups cost billions of dollars but still)

Basically with science I can build a pendulum and check it out.
But so far no one has given me a freshly minted copy of the Ten Commandments.

The real question is why would anyone believe anything other than science?
Where else can you get repeatable answers?
What else can answer questions that science can't?
I mean give reliable answers.
magpies
I agree science cant answer questions.

Maggotpies!

Did you learn anything in your special-ed class today?

How was conformity camp? Did you learn anything while copying the kid next door by wearing a leash?

I believe in science because it's laws were derived from experiments, not make-believe. We can prove things with science, you cannot prove jack all any of your claims.

The problem with society is that there are mongoloids out there that believe themselves over fact. In your case, you believe that your very "will" can change the laws of the universe, and not actual science because you are an uneducated imbecile.

That is why normal people have faith in science, and not their own (sometimes delusional) thoughts. In order to derive correct thoughts, one must first be educated on the basics of what they are thinking. That is how our top minds come up with the theories they do. While they may be defying current beliefs, they back up their propositions with math, and other existing laws.

Science does not "prove the begining or end" of the universe, it questions it.

There is nothing wrong with a logical question.

(edit) better add on, before I am misspoken for. I am not implying that a logical question has been asked here. It almost was, but it got into too much opinion.

Magpies,

Don't try too hard, the other kids need to win some awards once in a while.

Because science produces verifiable predictions which actually apply to the physical universe.

Of course, it helps if you know science. If you don't, you just have to go by the results.

The conformity is conformity to reality.

It's perpetuated by a "show me or shut up" attitude.
The opposing attitude is "shut and believe".

People believe in science because when science tells you something will happen, it invariably happens, whereas when religion or spirituality tells you something will happen, it may or may not happen.
It's as simple as that.

Additionally, science and religion/spirituality attempt to address two different fields. Nobody in their right mind turns to science to answer questions about the purpose of life, who is the right mate for them, what the morally right thing to do in a given situation is...
The fact that you seem to think people do just shows how far removed from reality you really are.

Science only tries to explain the how, and not the why.

WIll science ever be able to answer the 'why'? sad.gif

It is possible that there is such a thing as a stupid question. Asking 'why' nature does what it does is pointless. Meaning is a human invention, are you going to accuse science of 'not fulfilling human emotional needs'?
