Hi All,
QUOTE
Technology that is significantly cheaper than current, and/or is much higher performing, and/or has greater functionality, and/or is more convenient to use. Will revolutionize worldwide markets by superseding existing technologies. "Paradigm shifting" is a well-worn connotation. Although the term may sound negative, it is in fact neutral. It is only potentially negative to organizations that are unprepared for change, and fail to adapt, only to fall behind, and ultimately disappear. The results are not just evolutionary, they are revolutionary.
The process of life itself requires the death of some cells in order to make the room for new cells. What is disruption for some is opportunity for others. Evolution is disruptive but necessary since without it there would be no adaption to the changing profiles in our environment.
In order to make omelettes you just got to crack a few eggs. Even dinosaurs had to "go" regardless of their size and dominance on the Earth. Success for many is "he who dies with the most ... wins". This is "disruptive technology" at its worst. We must learn, if we cease to change and do not accept new ways of doing things, we will perish. This does not mean that we need to let go of all our values and things we held as being good. What we need to do is to let go of all those things we know are not good and do not represent our collective values.
Some of the most indomitable species on the Earth are not physically big or smart at all. These are the insects. They "own" this world and they are the most diverse and numerous of all. We despise them and kill them... But our species is just a single one off accident that so far is showing no long term stability. In terms of the history of the Universe, it would seem that our reign (if you want to call it that) is very limited. Our entire species could end in a single day. After us the insects will live on to once again dominate this planet as they have for millennia.
So when we talk "disruption".. remember to think "adaption" or you and your descendants will have no place to go.
Cheers
