Project Blue Book is what it was called (IIRC). It was canceled in the late 60's or early 70's after no convincing evidence of alien visitation was found (at least that was the official reason). There is still no convincing evidence 30-40 years later!
I have have no Idea on ghost research ( I hope they are not wasting public money on ghost research!). Let the private sector waste money on this! Public money should not be spent on paranormal research!

The science of Psychical Research was begun in 1882, with the founding of the first Society for Psychical Research. Their Journal is JSPR and can be found in many research libraries. Research in this field is privately funded. To join any of the Societies for Psychical Research, one must have a professional degree in a field of science, e.g., an MD or a Ph. D.
Ufology began in 1947 with The Flying Saucer Review and is still published in the UK, like JSPR. I am not aware of any prerequisites for being a Ufologist. MUFON is a prominent organization, more or less the equivalent of the SPR. There are many similar organizations, with many different names. Research is privately funded. The FSR magazine is not usually collected by libraries, but one can buy many past issues.

Certainly the CIA has been involved in "table rapping" with the real Project Stargate Program and remote viewing. This allegedly communicates with aliens and every manner of being... he he he!
