As we travel on road by vehicle and by trains we observe tunnels being constructed.

1. What is the Business need for constructing Tunnels ?.

i.e when should the decision be taken by engineers to construct a tunnel ?. what are the input parameters for the same ?.

2. why does the length of a Tunnel constructed varies ?

i.e we observe some are 0.1 km, 0.3 km, 0.5 km, 1 km, 1.5 km, 2 km, 5 km etc.

3. Instead of Building a Tunnel, can there be other alternatives ?.

Can there be alternatives to Tunnel Construction ?.

What i mean is before a Tunnel is constructed, instead of Building a Tunnel, can there be some other way around ?

What are the advantages of Building a Tunnel ?.

is this the advantage ?.

Shorter PATH TO REACH TO THE OTHER Side ?. i.e. if tunnel would not have built, it would have been a Longer Path for travel. i.e More distance to cover if Tunnel was not built. Since Tunnel was built,
the distance covered is faster ?.

The Tunnels which we see when we are traveling by road or by train in case were not built, will our vehicle (two wheeler, three wheeler, four wheeler) or by train (rails) would not have passed to the other way side ?.

The bear went over the mountain the bear went over the mountain the bear went over the mountain to see what what he could see. A bridge may be what the doctor ordered .

I am sure there are lots of rules . Yeah . There are butt loads in bridge building so there you go . Watch out for the E.P.A. or better team up with O.S.H.A. as a partner .

You can always look for a different rout or utilize existing routs

O.K. I looked at the wiki link and it is using tunnels as a generic term . It applies to what we call chases . That is the technical terminology in the field . Chase

To give you another example of a chase imagine an elevator shaft . The tunnel that houses the elevator car. You can even think of rail road tracks as a chase . Even the block of a motor with pistons moving in the chase

India or the Mediterranean area would be my guess. By the name signed at the bottom of his page .

Think chase my friend . Not quite housing but close to it . Bulkheads are another misunderstood terminology

Thank you.

Can a Tunnel be extended or decreased in Length (unit : meters, miles)?.

For example :

We see so many Tunnels built with different lengths 100 meters, 500 meters, 1000 meters, 2000 meters, 5000 meters etc ?

For example :

A tunnel which is already built has a length of 500 meters.

Two Case Studies
---------------------

1. Increase in Tunnel Length :

Say Tunnel Length to be increased to 600 meters.

Under what conditions, Business needs will a Tunnel Length has to
be increased ?. i.e Decision to be taken for increasing the tunnel length..

2. Decrease in Tunnel Length :

Say Tunnel Length to be decreased to 400 meters.

Under what conditions, Business needs will a Tunnel Length has to
be decreased ?. i.e. Decision to be taken for decreasing the tunnel length.

that is trange. 57 km ( 35 mile) Gotthard. What did I just post about ? As the bird fly.
That is a saying . It is meant as a straight line I believe . The shortest distance between 2 points .

What do you need to know tunnel rules for ? You gonna blow up a tunnel or something ? Better not if that is what your thinking . I will take you to hell with me when I go back if you do .

We don't know the regulations you are asking for . Laws are specific to the area the tunnels are built . Soil profiles I imagine play a big roll also. You need a Geo-engineer

Then you need structural engineers . Get good ones too. Ones with track records of competence . Not all engineers are the same . I suspect a percentage suffer from bi-polar bouts of coping. I can see why when you deal with theoretical futures that are life dependent . God forbid a structure fails and butt loads die do to a decimal point . It happens .
