Virtual communities like this rarely include crossover meetings in the real world. But if they did and you could choose to have a beer with anyone here ... Who would it be? Feel free to make a list in order ...
For me:
1. Philip347 -- Honestly. I'd love to have several beers and pick through his mind. I think it would be one of the most interesting alcohol experiences of my life. Now go give him some POS rep/feedback.
2. Beer W/Straw -- I think the reason is obvious.
3. Trout -- So I could point to other people in the establishment and say "That guy thinks the universe is 64 Trillion years old" and see what Trout does after he's had 4 or 5 pints.
4. Sapo/Granouille -- So I could watch him bait Trout with something better than I tried.
5. Ron -- Because he was nice to me on my very first thread.
6. Tikay -- I guess she's gone but I like hippy chicks.
7. Meem -- Only because we'd all MAKE him go get our beers and pay for them and because he'd do it.
8. 4Dguy -- I'd buy him a pint for every differential equation he solved correctly.
And that'd be enough around a table for me. It'd be an entertaining night no doubt. rpenner of course would be pouring the pints.

Ok, little closer to home, you could try using/setting up a ventillo/teamspeak2 server for members of this forum, where real conversation using voice can take place. Since i play a fair bit of online-gaming and have access to a 100+ slot vent server for our members i guess somehing like this could be set up. The problem may be, who would pay the bill for such a server for a science forum? myabe someone here already has the bandwith to host one.

Just an idea... you can still drink your ales, and have a great chat.

OMFG ... I can't believe I said "An Few"? WTH? I suck at editing. My initial title was "Quaff An Ale" then I rethought it and intended to say "Quaff A Few Ales".
Now everyone here probably thinks I quaffed "an few" too many ales before starting the thread.

My initial thought regarding your suggestion is ...
1. Whatever you'd be using wouldn't likely work on Mac OSX ...
2. Arguing in text is moderated by the difference in time it takes to read and type ... live arguing on a headset might be a bit of a circus ...
3. I'd love to hear some of our non-primary English speaking folks argue whether time is a property of the universe or an artifact ...
LOL.

Liu (boneidol, MickDerry, TobynotToby, mirrorman, Azza, Squeeze, and quite a few other handles). He's such a confrontational, whiny bullshit artist that I'd love to hear him whining when he's drunk. Also, he'd probably die of a heart attack halfway through the night from his sheer hatred of me, which would be funny to watch.
I'd invite Meem, but I bet he'd stay home, too afraid that I'll turn out to be a mean drunk.
C2 and Eddie3. Just to see if they have the balls to make their "subtle" insults when it's a face to face conversation. I doubt they would, but still.
Also, Farsight. I'd challenge him to a fistfight, too, cause he loves to run off at the mouth about how tough he is. I'd like to see how full of it he is.
And now for the people I'd truly enjoy having a few beers for, or would buy a beer for if I ever ran into them in a bar.

And you, sirs!
I think we'd have a good round or two, and greatly increase the entropy of BS in the universe to boot.

It'll not work. Everyone would have to play the same PC game.

Huh? what game? all it is, is a standalone VOIP server, which allows other users to join and use a microphone to speak using VOIP. Our Team vent server has 100+ slots, and since tonight is friday night i'll be in there drinking beers, chatting with people i have played with for the last few years that live more then 2000 km away.
