According to Frank J. Tipler (renown mathematician and physicist), he believes that we will be able to print psyche onto silicon. He states that hundreds upon millions of years from today, we will ave mastered how to record a humans consciousness onto the simple elegant microchip. Until then, he has made a dateline for everything.
Why would we do all of this? Well, according to Tipler, to be resurrected at the very last instants of the universe. Tipler believes that in 10 billion billion years the universe will begin to contract, and we will be sophisticated machines traveling through spacetime, progressing, and multiplying.
And it is in the very last moments of reality his dream comes alive. According to relativity, the very last moment of spacetime will seem to go on forever... well, actually for 20,000 years exactly. Thus, he believes that resurrection will occur during this time period.
It's a wild speculation at best. What do you feel about Frank Tiplers futuristic nanotecnological life?

STAGGERBOT
many believe a major step towards this or a similar scenario (minus the big crunch) will occur in the very near future...the technological singularity. Tipler's version of the omega point seems like a cross between Teilhard de Chardin's Omega point and the technological singularity....but I think a simple sequence of the idea's goes: Teilhard de Chardin -> Tipler -> technological singularity (Vinge, Kurzweil) with a bunch of other's in between (Good, Turing.....)

don't know if the human psyche will be printed onto silicon though

but basically, infinite technology = infinite possibility....but then there's details of course

before then I'm sure we'll make great pets for the robots!
