Is a "God fearing" Scientist possible? Or is religion the lack of?

Newton also believed that lead could be turned into gold. In those days it was necessary to claim a belief in god even if you didn't believe in him or you could face imprisonment/torture/murder at the hands of the church.

It doesn't matter what you believe in, as long as it doesn't interfere with the pursuit of truth.
I say that it is possible to have a religious scientist, though he could not really be called religious if he takes science seriously, for there are so many subjects on which religion and science clash. It is however possible, that the scientist is only religious outside his/her practice of science, and perhaps absolves himself of any religious beliefs, while in pursuit of scientific truth. A partitioned mindset so to speak.

Applieing scientific principals to religion does not prove it wrong, NOT at all, all it proves is that scientific principals cannot prove (Cannot be used to prove) what is beyond science's ability to measure or quantify.....metaphysical......

Easily, as you can prove all of the rest of the Truth, and when viewed from a perspective that includes God, much more of it makes waaaaaay more sense. 
Religion and "GOD" are two different things! You can believe in god and not have a "religion" or made-up mythology surrounding the existence. Likewise, you can have a mythology and no god figure.

Surely god would have wanted us to know about him? Why would he hide from science so it cannot know about him?

I am one... Berkeley Astrophysics. So, I exist... And I know lots more, like Charles Towns (Nobel laureate), who I talked to two weeks ago. Anyways, if you’ve studied physics or astrophysics in any depth, you’ll find that there are lots of problems existence that seem totally out of scientific reach… and dependent on God.
