So they fire electrons through two slits, to see if the will act as particles or waves. Got it. Turns out the work as waves, because there is an interference pattern. OK.
But then if someone trys to observe the actions of the electrons as they pass through the slits they act differently?

Is it really that simple, or is this like a ridiculous oversimplification? Is there really any truth to that, or is it just made up?
