some of the dumbest hype ever! They"ve hade phones better than the iphone in every way (except looks) for years. Just like the ipods, stupidest waste of money ever.

But of course, once something catches on everybody HAS TO have it, regardless of the price, or neccesity.

iPod is the stupidest waste of money ever? 100 million iPods have been sold so far. It is so successful because of its simplicity, price-per-feature value, and its very good audio quality (AAC compression). It's an elegant little gadget. Furthermore, a chunk of iPod sales are repeat customers.

The Mac is another interesting example. I was anti-Apple for a many years. I was (still am) a Windows developer, and an exclusive Windows user. I still support a Windows app I wrote last year. But after purchasing my first little white MacBook in 2006 for my daughter, I went back and bought a MacBook Pro for myself. I have NEVER used my HP notebook computer since, except to support the aforementioned Windows application. And the Mac is just very easy to use. And (here's the kicker), I think the Mac is a more elegant product.

All this to say that if (big IF) the iPhone succeeds hugely, it will succeed for similar reasons: quality, simplicity, and elegance.

This guy needs a woman. And needs to get his priorities straight.
