This may be a stupid question, but I do not understand this:

We need motion to produce electricity, atoms are literally everything, electrons are in constant motion around the nucleus, protons and neutrons jiggle within the nucleus, and quarks jiggle within the protons and neutrons. <----- Why can we not tap into this motion and create a clean and unlimited source of energy? Do we not have the technology required or is it the fact this would just not produce enough motion to generate any useful energy?

If it is the fact that it would not produce enough energy then why not use multiple atoms?

I assume there is a reason this is not possible, I sure as hell hope I am not the first person to think of this.

Unless this is somehow impossible which I do not see why then I think further research into this source of energy would be well worth it considering it would be a 100% clean and unlimited source of energy.......................

In a way it is mostly already done.

atomic motion: heat energy

electronic motion within atoms/molecules: chemical energy

neutrons/protons in nucleus: nuclear energy (fission/fusion)

quarks in neutron/proton: need particle accelerator

Anything small enough to touch an electron, proton, or neutron, would be these parts themselves, so nothing can touch an atom, except another atom, so heat is the only way to utulize this motion...

Think about it, piece of steel bigger than a steel atom, couldn't utulize the movements of the protons and electrons...It's like the moon trying to change it's orbit by the power of a small gasoline engine, it will never happen. This is probably way out of scale but it kind of makes sense I guess cool.gif

So you are saying that by attaching a larger "piece of steel" to the electron it would virtually stop it? has this been done before? if you stopped only one electron and not all of them (supercooling the atom) would that not cause collision? What would be the result of colliding electrons? Hehe, sorry this has just created more "stupid" questions ;d.

Just to let you know...

You can't stop an electron, proton, etc. and thus take its energy away.

The reason is you can't apply the everyday experience to the quantum world. These subatomic particles are in their ground state usually. Ground state means they move with some minimum energy. Unlike everyday composite objects, which can be at rest.

This site may not be the best place to learn the whole story. Probably best to read how Bohr, Einstein, Heisenberg got their Nobel prizes.

Basically what I am saying is that I think that it is impossible to utilize the movements of electrons around a nucleus. I wish I could go back 150 years so I could acually invent something!
