Researchers at Louisiana State University have found fish oil could be good for the brain. Fatty acids they say can protect the brain from the disastrous impact of Alzheimer's disease.

Alzheimer's disease reduces the brain’s ability to acquire knowledge. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), a fatty acid, which is found in mackerel, sardines and salmon, brings down the protein level in the brain. Such high protein level can cause cognitive problems associated with Alzheimer's disease. During the study, scientists carefully examined the brains of Alzheimer's patients. They found that "neuroprotectin D1", which is derived from docosahexaenoic acid is relatively small in the area that is responsible for cognition when compared to other parts of the brain.

More than four million Americans live with Alzheimer's disease. These figures could quadruple in the next four decades if science fails to develop a therapy for the infection. In the meantime, Alzheimer's patients can protect their brains by increasing their consumption of diets that are rich in fatty acids. 200 to 300 milligrams of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), an omega-3 fatty acid per day is good.

So, fish can be essential. Too bad we're poisoning them with pollution and killing them off faster than they can grow back.

Yea, the best thing for the environment and for fish may be for several hundred million humans to die early due to altzheimers. Great logic. "So, fish can be essential." Who ever said they weren't?

Yes, protect your brain by eating fatty foods! Whoever said bacon cheeseburgers weren't good for you?! McDonald's -- the anti-Alzheimer's.

Omega 3 is the name of a type of fat that the human body needs to function normally. It is found in varying amounts in fish, seeds and nuts. There are three different Omega 3 oils - DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid) and EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid) found in fish, and ALA (Alphalinolenic Acid) found in flax seed and some nuts.

Due to modern dietary changes most people do not get enough of these fats. Scientific evidence supports the supplementation of essential Omega 3 fatty acids may help your heart, joints as well as your brain.

There are many excellent resources for Omega 3 Fatty Acids, one source is an ultra refined fish oil. More info: Omega 3 Fatty Acids and Ultra Refined Fish Oil

OmegaEPA is an excellent source of fish oils, rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3's have been the subject of intensive research, due to repeated observations that people whose diets are high in fatty fish tend to be healthier than other populations. The most important omega-3 fatty acids are EPA and DHA. Preliminary scientific evidence suggests EPA may help maintain cholesterol levels already in the normal range when consumed as part of a low-fat and low-cholesterol dietary program. DHA is an important component of brain tissue.

Lo and Behold !
Cocoa Tickles, a new tantalizing healthy delight combines the goodness of real chocolate and essential Omega 3 fish oil fatty acids, guaranteed to tickle more than just your taste buds and your brain's pleasure center, as it also lowers the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Cocoa Tickles - First Omega 3 Chocolate in the World

Tickles Your Taste Buds Into a Tasty Glee !
Now, if you are one for whom the mere thought of blissful creamy textures of fine chocolate tickles you taste buds then there is nothing more delightful than chocolate made the old-fashioned way in our chocolate atelier, located in the Curacaví valley in central Chile. A team of chocolatier artisans take extra special time in producing luscious hand made fresh chocolates, that are also good for your health. They are a labor of love, contain pure cacao powder, cacao butter, and no artificial additives, no sugar, no fat, no starch, no flour and no preservatives.

Tickles Your Heart Into a Healthy Bliss !
Cocoa butter is a ¨good fat¨ that does not raise cholesterol levels. It also contains oleic acid, an unsaturated fat that actually raises the good HDL levels of fat in the blood. It has been said that eating cocoa can reduce the blood's platelet activity that act as a blood thinner almost like aspirin.

Cocoa also contains polyphenols that are some of the most powerful antioxidants in the world. The antioxidants in the cocoa of our delicious dark chocolate tablets can also help improve immune function and reduce the inflammation of blood vessels.

The benefits of omega-3 fatty acids in cardiovascular diseases are so well demonstrated that the American Heart Association has published statements since 1996 recommending increased fish intake and/or omega-3 supplements, for Omega-3's cannot be synthesized by the human body and therefore must be ingested in the foods we eat.

Tickles Your Brain's Pleasure Center !
Although best known for cardiovascular benefits, new findings indicate that the influence of omega-3 fatty acids in mental health may currently be underestimated. Epidemiological, experimental and new clinical studies have all shown a strong connection between omega-3 fatty acids, or a lack thereof, and major depression.

Over the last decade, neuroscientists have been examining the consequences of omega-3 deficiencies in the central nervous system. Alterations in serotonin and dopamine levels, as well as the functioning of these two important neurotransmitters is evident in an omega-3 deficiency. The changes observed in omega-3 deficiency in animals is strikingly similar to that found in autopsy studies of human depression.

Omega-3 deficiency can also decrease normal blood flow to the brain, an interesting finding given the studies which show that people with depression have compromised blood flow to a number of brain regions. Finally, omega-3 deficiency also causes a 35 percent reduction in brain phosphatidylserine (PS) levels. This is also of relevance when considering that PS has documented antidepressant activity in humans.

Cocoa Tickles tickle just about every brain chemical there is, and may thus play a role in tickling your brain's pleasure center and help control and improve depression. And if consumed within a well balanced diet, it helps to maintain a beautiful figure.

Guiltless Pleasure For A Hale & Hearty Future !
Thus, if you are still not eating fish at least twice a week, or just don't like supplements or if you are always forgetting to take them, try Cocoa Tickles. They have absolutely no fishy smell, taste or “fishy burps” after. On the contrary they have been made to tickle your taste buds, bring forth the memories of your palate and recall health, pleasure and enjoyment.

Cocoa Tickles is the only chocolate that can be enjoyed with guiltless pleasure, thanks to its content of dark chocolate and essential fatty acids that reduce high cholesterol, lower the risk of cardiovascular diseases and boost your healthy mood.

Been eating cold water fish for 5 years now salmon, sardines and herring. After a year I noticed my brain was stronger. Interesting feeling!

Also I believe there is another fat in the brain of importance and that is omega 6 or what's from vegetable oils. I believe I have read they make up about the same proportion of the brain's mass. Equal parts omega 3 to omega 6. I don't know if there is any omega 9 in there or not.

To protect these essential fats one should take vitamin E. And low and behold there are 8 different vitamin E's now.The 4 tococepherols and the 4 tocotrienols. I take all 8.

Flood your system with antioxidants to protects the fats. I juice fruits and vegatables. My cholesterol was last tested at 120 total. Before I began it was 230.
And I do eat saturated fat. So you can't knock me for that!!!

I've touched every corner of my diet. So exercise and live long! tongue.gif

I've heard great things from my boss about the fish oil from Jigsaw Health. She takes it everyday. There are softgels or a lemon flavored liquid to take by the spoolfull... I already use their ground flax seed for omega 3s and fiber. I'm going to start putting the lemon flavored fish oil in protein shakes in the morning... Can't wait! biggrin.gif

Be really careful with fish. Even though most cans are labeled with "low mercury" unless it has "minimal mercury" on the label, chances are it's no good. I was told that 1 out of every 5 cans has OVER the FDA's legal limit of mercury.ohmy.gif These people are out to make money, they'll use all the fish they catch. Carvahlo Fisheries only uses smaller younger fish, as they have had less time exposed to the mercury. You can get it at http://www.jigsawhealth.com. They have sock-eye and king salmon, smoked, natural, and tuna too!
