In a material which will occur first stress or strain?
This is a question which was asked to me in my practical viva, my answer to this was that both will occur simultaneously.Please tell me its true or not.

strain comes first then stress.

Strain is measured with a strain gauge. It is the stress that causes the effect the strain gauge measures. So (I'd say) stress (the cause) comes first.
