Government scientists said Thursday that the periodic warming of water in the tropical Pacific Ocean, which can affect weather around the world, has returned.

The Pacific had been in what is called a neutral state, but forecasters at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration say the sea surface temperature climbed to 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit above normal along a narrow band in the eastern equatorial Pacific in June.

In addition, NOAA's Climate Prediction Center said temperatures in other tropical regions are also above normal, with warmer than usual readings as much as 975 feet below the ocean surface.
In general, El Nino conditions are associated with increased rainfall across the east-central and eastern Pacific and with drier than normal conditions over northern Australia, Indonesia and the Philippines.

A summer El Nino can lead to wetter than normal conditions in the intermountain regions of the United States and over central Chile. In an El Nino year there tend to be more Eastern Pacific hurricanes and fewer Atlantic hurricanes.

The forecasters said they expect this El Nino to continue strengthening over the next few months and to last through the winter of 2009-2010.

"Advanced climate science allows us to alert industries, governments and emergency managers about the weather conditions El Nino may bring so these can be factored into decision-making and ultimately protect life, property and the economy," NOAA Administrator Jane Lubchenco said in a statement.

This one is way better.

This link which just provides current Arctic data. What impressions I have been under is, if it does keep getting warmer, that eventually land based ice will melt and the oceans will rise, but there will be a problem because it will dilute the salt which helps ocean currents to function. That could be a "real" ice-age spring board?

Two, a lot of "real" climatologists think that "hyper-canes" are possible. So if it keeps getting warmer ... would these hyper canes work like the storms in day after tomorrow or what? What does the "real" science say?

The short answer is you are basically correct in certain respects. If the ice keeps melting you are supposed to get higher seas as the ice fills the water tables. This in turn causes desalinization which is supposed to cause Global Climate Change. It first is supposed to get warmer than flip into an ice age as the water becomes desalinized. Hurricanes are getting much worse. Category 4 hurricanes were rare in the past but now they are common. Hurricanes are at present much larger. They cover a larger circumference than they used to. Even now they do not always slow down when hitting land fall. Hurricane Charley in 2004 did not even slow down in central Florida. In 2005 it was a HOT 50 Degrees Fahrenheit in Siberia.

Trailer from Inconvenient Truth. This is a factual movie. This documentary confirms that "The Day After Tomorrow" was considered as factual. This is what most scientists say. But....

Some scientists have at least implied that it is much worse than that even because the above scenario is dependent on one crucial thing that the ice melts and just sinks into the ocean. Actually the ice is evaporating into space as fast as the melting rate. The ice melts then turns to water vapor which leaves the earth through holes in the ozone layer. To get this information you have to read and look extensively because the powers that be do not want Anyone to know this information because it shows to very dangerous facts that the warming will not stop and we will become like either Venus or Mars. The intense Green house effect is a reality on Venus. Carl Sagan discovered the effects of Green house effect and Nuclear winter by his studies of how Mars and Venus atmospheres function. You would want to read the fallowing books by Carl Sagan Pale Blue Dot and A Path Where No Man Thought. Also you want to see "Cosmos Heaven and Hell"

The above links are from Cosmos Heaven and Hell. Carl Sagan gives a simple way of saying complicated science. Here is a good place to start. In books by Sagan he goes into more detail. This should help between the books and the links.

In fact, the producer of the movie himself acknowledge that the science presented therein was "nonsensical":

In The Day After Tomorrow, Roland Emmerich has smartly critic-proofed himself from the accusations of bad science that dogged his previous films by both hiring a number of meteorological advisers and also publicly stating that he was quite aware that what the film depicts is scientifically nonsensical and that for the purposes of storytelling the actual period under which an Ice Age would occur has been dramatically condensed from decades and centuries to a matter of weeks.

Here's my crazy idea, or inconvenient truth. Fear of the unknown, aka the day after tomorrow (which no matter how you slice it, is tomorrow) is the "mark of the beast." If we never face our fears, how will we ever face ourselves, let alone tomorrow, or the day after? Could it be Good, could it be evil? Angels or Aliens? Right or Wrong? Poetry or Perversion? Is change something we do unavoidably, or, is unavoidable that me must change, to adapt to our climate? Who cares if we did it or not, if we caused it or not. We are watching it happen with our thumbs stuck in our bums arguing over .... intelligent design? Intelligent design is simple! We do things that are bad for the environment. Why can't we rethink what we are doing?

(edit)And if I could get any further into this fear of the beat(ha, that was a mistake but I am going to leave it- actually meant beast) thing, it's associated with a number so, could one say the mark of the beat is the fear of numbers and their meaning? That doesn't make any sense or does it?(edit)

Al Gore is just a stupid hippie, without the haircut.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLm3HMG8IhM&feature=related

If the numbers go up rapidly, could they not fall just as rapidly? Tic-Toc, the clock is ticking ... what would we do? Can we even do anything now? Who could?

Everything doesn't make sense, just like people, just like Einstein and countless "others" never made sense. I'm not Einstein, or anyone else and I never want to be able to make perfect sense, otherwise I doubt I'd understand what beautiful was, is, or could be. And I know that doesn't make any sense. I like it that way.

I wish I could figure strange weather out, so I could figure out where to move to avoid it. Texas is too hot! I would prefer a more moderate climate ... but where or where has my little dog gone oh where oh where could he be?

We've just experianced several years of drought in my region, with only the last wet season being 'real' wet, but more so than before.
