There may not seem to be a big difference between these references to ‘intel,’ but ask yourself, “How good is my discipline at email, cell phone, or laptop use?” All of these devices are handy, efficient, and easily portable. It will be up to the user in how they strategize their collection and dissemination of intelligence related data with these devices.
The newer folk to the trades will likely be more user delighted at having these gadgets. They will need to have a discipline of a kind which incorporates the necessities of communicating the contents of the dots not just sorting them, collecting them, or dismissing them altogether. “Blurr” reduction is also an important consideration where data volume is apparent suggesting more members in the ranks.
An inter agency search engine and database which cuts through long winded hyperbole will do wonders for maximizing time used in acquiring needed data bits for field operations. It will cut down on “lard-butt” syndrome, too, from having to spend excessive amounts of time sifting through thousands of lines of words helping “analysts quickly trade, update and edit information.”
Adept training for these goals will need to be in place before the ‘toys’ are handed out. If I’m not mistaken, there is a great deal of talent already in the ranks to be shared, not just compartmentalized and out of reach along with intelligence data.
At any rate, they won’t know how well or fast this “social networking” will go until the horse is out of the gate.
