Nobody is replying to this post, as most with brains know what this means, if the chips get out of control.

It wasn't obvious to me at first, but afterwards it became clearer...
The more general question should be how reliable is a material that contains significant compositional variation at the scale of tens of nanometers?

The writer of the article is an idiot.
"The technique deployed by IBM causes a vacuum to form between the copper wires on a computer chip, allowing electrical signals to flow faster, while consuming less electrical power. "
OK, a vacuum between the copper wires. Got it.
"'This is the first time anyone has proven the ability to synthesize mass quantities of these self-assembled polymers and integrate them into an existing manufacturing process with great yield results,' said Dan Edelstein, IBM Fellow and chief scientist of the self-assembly airgap project."
Self assembling POLYMERS. Sounds to me like the gaps are in polymers. Sounds like the polymers are the insulators, and the gaps make them better insulators. Not vacuums between copper wires.

Obviously, that story is make-believe. We all know that something more complicated can't come from something less complicated by itself!
*gasp*

wait...
Maybe... maybe God is making these chips... OMG, Jesus is coming back as a computer!! I wonder who the chosen OS will be...

“…borrowing a process from nature to build the next generation computer chips. The natural pattern-creating process that forms seashells, snowflakes, and enamel on teeth has been harnessed by IBM…”
When these people will know the matrix, will be the jump for biological/quantum computation. Seashells are not natural pattern-creating process, but, mere reproduction of natural pattern/matrix. Like the shape of a tree is the shape of a galaxy (the central axis, the branches, etc.) and the shape of the lines on the leaves of trees is the same shape of the tree and of the galaxy. There is a way for to produce a “living” stored data – data that is variable in accordance of external stimuli and time/space variations. It is to shape the data as a package of bits information like a closed matrix. I think that it will transform the actual platform of 01010101 into something like this:
1(0,1,2,3,4,5,6)2(0,1,2,3,4,5,6)3(0,1,2,3,4,5,6)4(0,1,2,3,4,5,6)5(0,1,2,3,4,5,6)6(0,1,2,3,4,5,6)0.
Instead 0 or 1 we can see that the way codes data is a lot more complex. And need to know that the numbers/variables inside the parenthesis are the different phases of any system lifetime. This variation can be getting by the variation of electric charge of each signal. Matrix/DNA Theory has a lot for contribute here, because we have the photo of the matrix.
PAN: " We all know that something more complicated can't come from something less complicated by itself!"
Pan, think about the DNA: if we don't know which data and potential are codified into the junk DNA, the whole DNA seems less complicated than it real is. The same is happening here, in these deep levels of Nature. It is all about potentials that are hidden and still unknown. But, if we can see the assembly of matter in more complex organizations driven by the matrix of astronomical system that our planet is embedded into, we will discover that it is a lot more complicated.
