i wanted some way of showing Ron that i respect his contributions to physorg. Ron displays qualities that i find noble. generally a nice guy and mixed with knowledge, Ron stands out.

i could not wait until Ron made his 1000th post, so i thought that those members (yes even those with customised member titles) who think the same as i, should gather to celebrate Ron's 1000th post, but we need 8 more posts from Ron in order to celebrate.

remember its a surprise. okay here we go...

So, Ron, which LHC experiment are you most interested in and why ?
Ron
Wow,
I checked the board this am and almost fell off my chair. Your OK brother.
As far as the LHC, it's gotta be to find the Higgs. I know there's been alot of nay say about it being a shot in the dark, but we really haven't had the energies required to find one. Stanford, I believe, can only get to energies that would uncover particles up to a max of 100 or 150 proton masses? As far as I understand, the smallest Higgs particle would be closer to 200. As far as I'm concerned, this is the only viable shot to find, if not the Higgs, any particles at that extreme end of what we know of the Standard Model.
I've been spending more time trying to learn about the Standard Model this last year or so, since the LHC became closer and closer to action, and as little as I can learn on my on in a layman's framework, I've been amazed at what these colliders, and the scientists around them, have been able to find. Heck, they didn't even need a collider (just a good GRB) to catch something like 8 neutrino's under Lake Superior!
I'd be more than honored to have some of the big guns add to these thoughts (or just plain correct me!).
Thanks again, looking forward to putting "Still Newbie" under my name.
Peace,
Ron

Arthur
BigDumbWeirdo
Arthur may spit at a thousand posts, but I just recently got there myself, so I know how cool it is to be able to change your title. (I've gone through 3 so far!)
I agree with everything kjw said about you, Ron. Congrats!
(PS, I'd probably agree with everything nice ever said about you, barring those things said immediately following an intimate encounter. laugh.gif )

What you "win" is the ability to change your title to something besides "advanced member"

Now use this new found freedom responsibly and don't change your profile while intoxicated.

(like BDW did)

HEY! I resemble that remark! dry.gif mad.gif
Speaking of which, does anyone know what my title means?
"THEY"
My guess is that it is spelled wrong, or not properly typed, and it is the Monty Python's fish slapping dance. Its fish something...

Or its just plain fishy... rolleyes.gif

It's an anagram of the well known and essential tool used by sarcastic veterinarians: "dry vet fork blotter"?
BigDumbWeirdo
THEY: Nope! No monty python reference.
Sapo: I'm not sure, you'll have to remind me what your guess was...
Euler: Nope, not an anagram!
smile.gif
I'll explain it as soon as you guys are done guessing. Or if one of you gets it right, of course.
Ron
I won't be guessing anytime soon cause THEY has me saying "Here fishy fishy fish" every time I see it now!
Well, so goes the meaning of life.

I can't make much sense out of it.

I tried to take the words apart and see what the meant.

Fisk = Fish

voldtekt = Abuse

http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/voldtekt

forbryter = Rapist ?

http://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saging

Note caption: "En forbryter blir saget i to "

A XXXXXX is sawed in two.

Haven't quit though.

Arthur
"THEY"
BDW likes to abuse and rape FISH??/ ohmy.gif ohmy.gif Thanks arthur for taking the extra step to break the word in half, I didn't have time if I wanted to post. I like your answer, and no matter what BDW says, he is a fish rapist.

laugh.gif We've got it!
"Fish Rapist."
Note how Norwegian uses a compound word that transliterates as "criminal rape" instead of the single word 'voldtekt' meaning forcible sex or sexual abuse. It's related to the fact that rape has always been considered a crime in Scandanavia, wheras many other western societies only criminalized it relatively recently.
As for the second article you linked to...
Shudder.

"Saging is when a convict is hung upside down and sawed in half slowly through the center. They begin at the crotch. The reason for hanging to convict upside down is to ensure that the brain has a coninuous supply of blood, although strong bleeding does occur. The convict thus remains alive and aware, up till and through the ("shredding" I think) of the abdomen, and sometimes further."

I hope I got that right, my norse is not all it used to be, and I had to guess at a couple words based on the context.
Ron
And I thought this thread would be boring.
Only BDW can take a thread from "happy 1000th" to "the shredding"!
I'm starting tear up (no pun intended).

Nope. I tried to think up the most ridiculous title I could come up with, then translate it into another language. It's changing soon, though. I liked "Ginnungagap," but I probably won't go back to it. "Cereal Killer" was nice, but too overdone.

By the Way, I realized I've dragged this thread off-topic with my self-centered guessing game. Congrats again, Ron! You can be the next Fish Rapist if you like!

You guys are awesome. I couldn't have asked for a better 1000th birthday gift. Talk about stranger than fiction!
Thanks for the ideas for a title, too. I can be as twisted as I like in Norwegian, I've learned. (Although fish rapist / tortured fish sex is gonna be hard to match).
Peace All,
Ron

Hey They,
It's gonna be more than 9 or 10 posts to match our witty (yet big and dumb) friend. (Crap, now I just put too much pressure on myself!)
"THEY"
Aw, heck you can change it daily if you get the inspiration! My current one didn't take much thought. cool.gif Although I did kinda like my SU one. (the element of surprise)

Ah! You are a very nice guy Ron...maybe that is the sole reason you are being celebrated...no one cared about my 1000th, 2000th, or 3000th...and no one cared that like six hundred posts disappeared from the counter either...heehee
Anyhow, I am thinking we are celebrating a man who isn't so quick-tempered in here, because of it's uber-unusualness. Thanks for being a gentleman, so consistantly. And sorry for finding this post so late!
