Rest Frame/Four-Momentum/Mass

Hello,

Please do your best to explain the relationship between invariant four momentum "length" and rest mass. My understanding is that when calculating mass in the rest frame, it's really not mass per se, yet the invariant four momentum length.

I know the equation, but I am having difficulty grasping the relationships of p in the rest frame to m and to the vector. Try to explain the relationship between four momentum length and mass as best you can.

A good analgy would suffice.
