How would you rate the members of this site? A person's feedback is not a perfect indicator of their respectability here, after all, some people have low or high opinions of those with whom they rarely interact, and thus rarely give feedback to. Some people have mediocre opinions of those with whom they interact frequently, and their frequent feedbacks to this person tend to exaggerate their opinions, so I thought I'd start up a Rate Your Peers thread, so we can really get a good idea of the various reputations we have all developed here, but which rarely get mentioned, or even agreed upon. Asking the wrong person to describe others will get you a description which can be completely inaccurate, or even the polar opposite of that person's traits! So to develop a bit of a reputation system here which is more accurate, I propose that we rate each other on a scale of 1-10 in various aspects. 10 of course, being perfect. The aspects I propose are as follows.

Knowledge: How well does this person know the subjects on which they often converse or argue? Keep in mind that this applies only to subjects which they commonly discuss. A forum member who has (or is earning) a PhD in physics should not receive a 5 because they normally discuss only physics and mathematics, but once joined in a conversation about evolutionary biology and got some facts wrong.

Intelligence: How astute does this person seem to be in conversation? Do they often misunderstand jokes at their expense, or fail to understand implied points? Do they research the subjects they speak on, or do they not bother to double check their 'facts' before giving them?

Integrity: Does this person give false information, or knowingly use logical fallacies to attempt to prove their points? Do they accuse others of such things without basis, or use insults when they cannot continue to argue a point? Has this person ever admitted to making a mistake, or being wrong?

Communication Skills: Does this person communicate their ideas well or does this person randim jibrish mispling werds often do?

Humor: Does this person make you laugh, or do they seem to not understand humor, either not using it or using it poorly?

Creativity: Do they come up with creative new ideas, or do they just keep re-hashing the same old tired ideas? Do they contribute to speculative discussions, or do they just complain that none of it is hard science?

Manners: Does this person often make fun of others, or do they tend to assume the best until proven otherwise? Does this person carry on as if they were the ultimate authority, or display humility in their discussions?

I would ask than anyone submitting a rating of another member please include a rating in all 7 categories, in order to assure accurate results. You may only rate a member once, although you may change your ratings if you like. I would also ask that the following format be used to rate them:

mr_homm has consistantly shown himself to be incredibly knowledgable, intelligent, honest, and polite. While a few members have shown some slightly better communication skills, and somewhat better creativity and humor, those members are few and far between, leaving our silent bodyguard/manservant as one of the most respectable members of this forum.

deadbeat is a classic case of the religious apologist. His few redeeming features are his ability to communicate illogical ideas well, and the creativity he has shown in putting a spin on anything which might affect his arguments. His honesty is virtually non-existant, and he has several times even gone so far as to contradict his own views for the sake of argument. He shows a bit of knowledge of the subjects about which he so often argues, but inevitably not enough to fully support his position. He has often put his foot into his own mouth, and afterwords demonstrated his lack of intelligence and integrity by refusing to admit as much.
Overall, I feel the forum would be a better place without him.

TheDoc is an intelligent and reasonably well-informed poster who spends most of his time here enjoying himself and entertaining others at the expense of the cranks. His ability to make me laugh is second to none. I feel he could stand to brush up a bit more on his understanding of physics, but only because it would allow him a greater understanding of the lack of knowledge many members display here, and serve as more fuel for his wisecracking fires. His only noticable bad quality is his lack of manners, but alas, such is the price one pays for the sake of humor and entertainment. It is a flaw I am more than willing to forgive, and one which matters little to me in the long run.

So there's three, I'll post more soon. I really hope some of you other folks will chime in, I'd really love to have a reference for all the newbies to check out the reps of those offering them physics advice, or debating common interest subjects with them.

I'll take first crack at you, BD.
You don't seem to get involved in too many subjects that you have limited grasp of, but I think that you're interest in objective topics shows you're not a one trick pony (hence Intelligence higher than Knowledge).
I know all the numbers are high, but you happen to be in my top 10 posters.
The only reason manners is not as high is cause your a jerk when you have to be (hence the high integrity!). The Communication skills may be lower partly because I'm not as smart as you, but creative guys can also skip around a little too much for us nit wits cause you know what you're trying to say and the 'you understood ' part of some posts may be not so much.
Just my opinion (and I've gotta at least try to keep a well thought out thread going).

Aside: "They" , I'd have to think too much right now to rate you, you've been like a den sister (notice I won't imply age by calling you den mother.)

Can I just say 10 for mr Homm, for everything also?
The big guns (rpenner, euler, an, and more I can't rate right now because they are way to complicated each in their own way.

All my other good buddies, I'll try to be kind when I get around to y'all!

simple to rate using this method. He always takes care in making his point and does so with more aplomb than most. Integrity is unquestioned and hence a 9. Can seem to get hung up on semantics and the "art of arguing". Makes uses of humor more than most and tries to be creative. Displays an occasional and apparent tendency toward intolerance (usually directed at only the "ignorant").

Like BDW said, I'm not the most knowledgeable guy when it comes to physics. Your "knowledge" rating for me is embarrassing. I try to post in the "real" forums here (i.e... the ones pertaining to physics) and always have to preface such with my complete lack of education in physics. For me it's about learning. If I was a "9" then I think it's a complete affront to those who are educated in that discipline. I stray to the other forums out of boredom and only really post when someone says something offensive to reason. Arguing for "reason" doesn't require "knowledge" per se. It just requires a big mouth and an aptitude for composing a sentence. Additionally, I have to add that anyone with a smitten of patience can google an issue for the "knowledge" and I don't hesitate to use that resource to make a point.

I do "know" a lot about hockey and nachos but that impressive resume' probably doesn't get me anywhere near a 9.

Above all the 10 for humor is gratifying.

Now I have to return the favor huh?

Clearly has more knowledge than me but I'm unsure I've seen a large enough sample to be fair so I went with 7 to leave room for improvement but countered that aspect with a clear 10 for intelligence. Downgraded substantially for FM actions which are somewhat distasteful to me due to their semi-organized repressive nature. Manners are likewise downgraded for the same reasons. I certainly wouldn't turn down an offer to sit down and quaff a few ales together as I'm sure I'd learn something.

Though I don't really want to differ with the seemingly well-earned whack-job assignment by the FM; I can see that (in some limited cases) that he does have something to offer in terms of knowledge and intelligence (not that he is ever very effective). Integrity is higher than I think pretty much anyone else would give him because I see a guy that brings a consistent albeit undocumented/unsupported series of arguments for his beliefs about the nature of the universe but when he ventures outside that subject he reveals himself to seemingly be totally whacked. He is a total mess when it comes to the three tenets of successful participation in a public forum. He absorbs a tremendous amount of insulting criticism (much of it deserved) but in responses he usually tries to continue to make his argument (even if it is wrong). In that sense he comes across to me as living up to adhering to some structure of reason.
