Recently an acquaintance of mine died from Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. It is impossible for me to accurately describe the absolute horror of his last few months so I will not try. Prions are a relatively new player on the scene and much about them is still open to debate. I have read that a researcher at Yale University feels that they are misclassified and that they are actually viral, but I don't remember where I read that and I am not allowed to post hyperlinks here anyway. My question is just geared at the general opinion concerning prion disorders. How big a deal are they? They are the only disorder that I know of that has(seemingly) a 100% mortality rate. I am just interested to hear opinions about them. I have also read that they may have an incubation period of 30-50 years, which increases the potential danger that they currently pose. I think that there was an outbreak of prion deaths associated with cannibalism sometime in the mid 20th century, but the kicker is that the outbreak did not occur until several decades after the cessation of cannibalism. Scary.

Also, I would recommend googling Fatal Familial Insomnia. I think it is probably the most terrible disease that I have read about.

What causes this resurfacing of the Croist-feld Yackove syndrome, is a Mendellion genetics wave.

All this means, is that submerged traits, once house within that line, through wave mechanics, once again comes to the surface.

You can inoculate against this, if you know when the wave is going to surface with this trait.

Mankind is a hybrid animal, technically speaking. But he she is at the near end of their line, so the composition of the being in the eclectic sense, is kind of like a shattered tree limb end, with genetic influences splayed.

This is why this trait had surfaced.

The same thing also happened with decedents of the vast vampire plagues of the 1700s that affected thousands of people, which translates into millions of people from that area today.

The church placing a gag order on this past situation from the people who had children after being bitten from these plague vamps only did not help matters much.

Maybe now you know how some other groups feel?

There are some people who carry the marker, but are totally immune to the Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.

*Croistfeld Yockove is spelled at fist phonetically for people who might not have a handle on how this word is said.

if prions could be deactivated by routine cleaning procedures ie, disinfectants, autoclaves it would not be a problem. imagine a hospital, that discovers during routine environmental monitoring, that prions are in the clean rooms. there is no option but to destroy all surgical instruments as this historic document describes

In 1977, two teenagers in Switzerland developed the incurable disease after having undergone surgery for brain tumors. The electrodes that apparently transmitted CJD had been cleaned, disinfected and sterilized using benzene, alcohol and formaldehyde.

i have been told by an acquaintance of mine that the australian regulatory body for regulating medicines, medical devices, blood & tissues (TGA) receives regular phone calls from hospitals, surgeries etc asking "where can i purchase a cleaning aid that will deactivate prions", to which the TGA reply "there is not one". my acquaintance has developed a product that deactivates prions. two years of substantiating the claim, the data has been submitted and approved by the TGA.

A friendly advice would be - do not consider a carrier as physician.

Prions are lethal cells that exist in the bone of the spinal column and skull. Prion cells were the primary causers of mad cow disease in England so many years ago. Yes it has almost a 100% mortality rate. Prions caused mad cow disease because the farmers were purchasing cheaper brands of grain that contained fewer organic minerals and nutrients. Instead this new grain had bits of random animals bone in it, including the spine and skull, thus these prion cells were transferred to animal feed and mad cow disease ensued. This is also why the symptoms of mad cow disease or seen in cannibalistic cultures. The scary thing is that seeing what some hot dogs are made of, it's surprising that symptoms caused by prions are not seen in some humans. Or has the FDA already stepped in for prevention? Just a little information on prions, hope this helps.

As a lapsed Molecular Biologist I am very sceptical about the prion theory where prion proteins can spread by the modification of other proteins. I still think this is a viral disease not yet isolated from spinal fluids.

Regarding the sterilisation of surgical instruments, it is known that biological material trapped in clamp and scissor hinges can survive sterilisation.
