If an typical human male were to dedicate his life to producing off-spring in a polygamy environment, biologically how many children would he be able to produce if he had access to infinite women? And biologically how many children can a typical woman produce in the same environment but with infinite men?

What does everyone think about polygamy? Why is polygamy seen today by many societies to be morally wrong? I think if atheism dominates and becomes the major belief of the world polygamy may be a future possibility. Think about the number of children each person could make. We humans could dominate the universe!

[Moderator: If you are in a situation where you are outnumbered by women by a huge factor, I suggest to them that you are clinically unsuitable to have children due to your limited capacity to think social issues through and therefore should be castrated for the good of the human race. In such a hypothetical situation, you would have no political power to contest the situation, as you are a minority of one only concerned with advancing your personal definition of good rather than that of society's good.

Women are not to be valued solely as incubators of your offspring, you cad.

As a practical matter, it takes a huge investment to raise children if you care about them growing up to exhibit that most human trait: useful thinking. Perhaps, this is why Islamic countries, which have intellectually fallen behind Europe since about 1600, are also known for permissive polygamy. More wealth is spent raising more children instead of raising children better.

the reasons societies have done away with polygamy are outlined quite explicitly in it...and believe it or not it is the man, not the woman that benefits from monogamy.

NO SPAM PLEASE

Is that a joke? Seriously.

This shithole is nothing but a spam farm, Neutron has abdicated, rpenner is fixing to burn out, (I damned well don't blame him!), and there are only a few real people here.

I expect the feedback to be fixed or the bad links removed, else my "appreciation" of the quality of toilet paper will have to go back to the Sear's Catalog, or a cornhusk...

That looks interesting.

Open polygny a la the Asian (Indian) version will definately push most men to compromise for monogamy. Otherwise guys won't mind much if the clandestine version continues... My Maasai cousins' practice spring to mind though it is a dying one.
