This isn"t true. The story has been repeated a number of times in the past couple of years, same story exactly, word for word. Looks like a lame attempt to put out vaporware by some losing group...

Almost every claim that comes out of Asia can not be substantiated, because the west hast limited access to these claimed technologies and it is not clear if they are hoax and another marketing trick usually employed by the japanese, Koreans, or the Chinese, or if it is an actual scientific break through. For most part, it is a psychological campaign. Koreans and Japanese have a long lasting dormant hate for each other, and they take it personally when one of the nations comes up with a technology that the other lacks. I personally side with the Koreans, because the Koreans think more like Europeans, and less with Japanese because of the recent trouble I went through with Honda motors mad.gif
Condraz23
This is obviously fake.

In a few years, Japan might have the technology and materials to do this but definitely not South Korea. Japan is ahead of South Korea by many years, maybe even a decade. I guess South Korea is trying to out-do their Japanese enemies in terms of technology by creating a fake hoax. The photo clearly shows a picture of an actual female human being and anyone with fully-functional eyes should be able to distinguish that. They should at least have made it more realistic instead of writing down that piece of unartistic fakeology.
Your fellow human (yfh)
They should have named her:
Lame-uzoid.

So, soon, they will be able to get her to move her legs . . . ? The comic opportunity that follows is endless. Try this one:
The engineers spent a year geting her to stand up and talk, now they can't get her to sit down and shut up.
No wait, that's the Al Gore model, nevermind.

I highly doubt that. Even the Honda robot which is supposedly all of that, has just learnt to climb the stairs. Just keeping the damn thing from falling took them 7 years. An android, I would say takes at least 100 years or more to become appreciable human like or functional.
bmcghie
100 years drude? Come on, you can't be serious. Look how far computing has come in the last 100 years. I would give them 20 years to make that Honda-bot walk anywhere it wants to.

As for the 'android' being fake... All history between Japan/Korea and the West aside, it really isn't all that amazing. I mean, it talks (barely), it looks like a human (so, there are plenty of sculptors that can make a face like that), and it looks at you when you talk. Yip-dee do! Strikes me as a gross overstatement to call that an android at this stage of production.

What on earth would possess you to call this a hoax? Is it that hard to imagine that today's technology can make a human sculpture look at you while you talk? And then use 1 on 400 pre-programmed responses to talk back to you?

I would venture to say that those who call this a hoax are still up in arms over the conspiracy of that new 'holographic projector'... Wait. That's real as well.

Condraz23,

what is funny about your comment is that you are wrong. the part about it being fake. That is the model, not a real human being.

CrashJ: You crack me up! The Al Gore model! hahaha Good one...

Well, if the thing is actually real then it must be the actual robot. However, since it is more likely fake, I don't think it is actually a real robot.

It's either an extremely-accurately sculptured model of a person or a just real person. If you also believe that the android is a fake, then you can decide.
bmcghie
It's a moveable sculpture, with robotics inside... what else is there?

As for it being an android... I'm not sure what the definition of android is, but it is a real robot.

That is hilarious.. still laughing at that one.. will it still be able to invent the Internet after learning to sit down? great post..

I wonder if you can have sexual relations with this thing and if that is a good or bad thing.

Give me a break! They've had more advanced technology than this at Disney theme parks for decades! Anyone ever ride the Pirates of the Caribean ride?

No, not with the Al Gore model. However the Bill Clinton model does has a special cigar function...

very true. In fact I think the first "android" was built in America and it is still in work (It used to imitate the singing band)

You Americans (well you as in all the Europeans who joined you from Germany, Britain, Nederlands, France, and some middleeasterns) really built the most amazing things. From the B-29, to the Sherman, to the Robot, shuttles, and even cars. Too bad, American organization is so lax and its advertizement machine more intend on brainwashing Americans to keep them quiet in face of international wars, instead of advertizing the technology and beauty that is America. That is perhaps one reason ppl easily ignore the American tech and are more inclined to the cheap imitations that arise from Asia.

you guys are morons i have seen the video of this... this is not fake... i have seen the android moving. don't be so narrow-minded as to say that every scientific breakthrough from asia is unsubstantiated cause for the most part it is not true. The south koreans also are pretty much right up there with Japan in terms of technology. They lead with mobile phones e.g Samsung and LG. They are about to get wireless broadband for the whole of Seoul. etc etc....
oldtimer
Well I've been teaching English in Korea for some six years now, and from what I hear from my adult students and male colleagues alike, all that is required of a Korean female is that she spread her legs basically, so a female android that has the ability to stand or sit is quite redundant really. tongue.gif Yep, it's just one big brothel over here.
P.S. the good side to that is it's a pretty safe country to live in as men can get their needs satisfied for a pretty cheap price, oh and before you start, it makes me appreciate my lovely hubby even more...and he gets his for free ...yahoo!

Anyone seen the Abraham Lincoln model at Disney parks? That is built using very old technology but many people think it's alive as it goes through various mannerisms and gestures while speaking.
