I am writing a science fiction novel and I would appreciate some help. One of my characters is cast out to abandoned offshore oil platform for armed kidnapping (kind of robinsonade situation). I have never been to any oil platform. Could someone kindly give some advice about what one could expect to find there?

So far I have the following paragraph (rough translation, I do not write in English & I am not native speaker). I tried to describe as small & primitive oil platform as possible (Yes, I do know that actually the very first oil platform in our world is more like a seaborne city. This story has alternative history):

Old offshore platform was a platform in its truest sense. In later years, plenty of these were built in Americas resembling very small cities with many planes, living quarters, bars and gyms. This one was merely a large square supported by a forest of steel columns. In one corner stood the rust-bit drilling rig, the other one was burdened with cranes for shipped cargo and rest of the space was took up by helicopter landing site and two rows of sea containers turned into dwelling quarters.
