I believe that the writer is confusing the Xbox 360, with its relatively loud fan (and HD-DVD) with the PS3, which doesn"t have this distraction.

People, as I, probably dont care about what format is what, but rather than they shoulden't have to worry about it. So whats needed is a cheap Dual HD-DVD/Blu-ray player. currently they're not cheap, and probably buggy... but once you have a multi-format player, no one, as myselfe will really look to see if the movie they buy is a HD-DVD or a blu-ray, long as it works. unless there is some large difference.

I was holding out for the $600 panasonic blu-ray bd10a unit but it seems not to be available. I consider that a good price only because of the 5 bundled movies.

Last week I bought the $300 toshiba hd-dvd a2 unit.

At that price I can start accumulating/enjoying hd-dvd movies until the blu-ray prices subside.

As with the earlier CD/DVD, the price of the player is insignificant in comparison to the investment in media. If the "war" continues OR if the players converge, any current investment in EITHER hd-dvd or blu-ray titles makes sense.
