Foley catheters are routinely associated with high rates (~40%) of urinary tract infections, often by antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria that can lead to serious complications.

I've had excellent results in treating various infections with colloidal silver.

It would be a simple matter to impregnate the silicone rubber of the Foley catheters with colloidal silver solution prior to use.

I would expect that this simple, cheap, and safe prophylactic measure would be effective at preventing most infections.

Anyone out there in a position to try this?

Is this something that is on the market or are you doing trials to get it FDA approved?

That's a lie.

It's the return of everyone's favorite snake-oil salesman, W. Carter Elliott!

So, got any proof for your claims yet, you dishonest creep?

I think snake oil salesman is a bit harsh, as the antibacterial properties are well established.

I actually lost interest in this topic when I realized that others had already tried this idea (successfully).

"Abstract

A small rehabilitation hospital in northern Arkansas had a problem with catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI). A review of practices and policies provided no reason for the trend. The facility trialed an ionic silver Foley catheter finding that it dramatically reduced the incidence of CAUTI in their patient population."

Great little topic.
And Nice work--thank you for sharing- for me this makes perfect sense though. laugh.gif
