This is probably more remarkable than it sounds. Just when you begin to consider the seemingly inevitable spatial and temporal restrictions of fMRI.

NanoStuff: Well done! Indeed, theoretically, this may be a finer tool that may be used in the work like A search of particle-wave function in our brain?! (PhysOrgEU; July 22).

However, in practice, Won’t the protein aggregates pose a danger to the functioning membrane, like the protein deposits in the Alzheimer’s?

How about the calcium ion depletion as a result of the aggregate formation? And therefore, Won’t the information transmission be altered or even halted on the membrane in site?

That crossed my mind. Perhaps calcium depletion can be taken into consideration and compensated for in the results. I would assume that any loss of calcium uptake would be consistant and thus could be simply reduced down to the effect of the nano particles. Results could be compared to standard fMRI with and without the particles in the system to determine whether there is any noticeable change; and while it may not precisely identify how calcium uptake is affected, it may at least show that the bound particles are affecting the results.

There's a danger of destructive protein formation; perhaps the method will be limited for laboratory research rather than medical examination. Certainly that will be the case at first, but there's always the possibility of creating a different molecular chain in the future that will not pose such a risk if one is found.
