I am looking forward to a day when a simple imposition of a nano scale pattern on a windsheild will make wipers obsolete. This will be especially useful on watercraft of all sorts.

Or a self repairing paint ph34r.gif

Small scratches will be the thing of past.. wub.gif

How would such a pattern help on a window? Possibly a slipprier surface than glass so rain would run off quicker, as the main problem is with water build up. Especially when trying to overtake a lorry who is throwing hundreds of gallons of water onto your windscreen.

The problem is not that water is falling onto your windscreen but that you are hitting rain at a good speed. The problem with any patterns is that they would change the optical qulities of the glass, especially with water running down channels.

Self repairing paint? No thanks. Tap another car and what is a little dab of colour on your car suddenly starts spreading and tries to take over your car.
