@Quantum_Conundrum:
Could you please explain...?
Sorry, I'm not on here every day.
If strings or branes do exist, you could never observe them because they are on a plane of existence and reality that is beyond experimentation.
If they exist, they are somewhere between God and Creation, so to speak; The things that make up and control all other things in all possible universes, or in fact may be a man made mathematical description of some aspect of "God," the creative origin not only of this universe, but all possible universes.
We could not observe a string or brane or whatever "might" be there, unless "it" modifies the physics an logic of the universe (or multi-verse if such a thing exists) in such a way as to make that possible.
Therefore, even though String theory is a mathematical construct, it is nevertheless functionally a metaphysical theory, not a physical theory...although the whole point of the math was to try to explain away the metaphysical as being merely another hidden layer of the physical, but that does not appear to be the case, unless someone somehow proves otherwise.
Ironically, though many string theorists are atheists, they are in fact "seeking God," through an attempt to produce a mathematical formula to try to describe the order and origin of the universe and all possible universes.
All modern cosmologists are creationists, whether or not they realize it.

Nanotechnology works on a completely different energy scale from string theory.To test string theory,we need to probe extremely short distances,which require extremely high energy,Like LHC.
String theory has no scientific merit because it can't be tested.It is more of philosophical theory.However,If it can describe everything and become the theory of everything it can be useful.Even if it can't be tested it will become more widely accepted because of it's usefulness.
