Hello all,

It is my first post smile.gif

I want your thoughts on this:
Do you feel that because your parents may have supported you when you were younger, that you "owe" it to them to support them now?

(Pay the bills they run up etc, just because they did it for you when you were younger and unable to work)

Thanks.

Saavik
Depends.

If they cannot work and do not have substantial retirement savings then I think it is right for you to support them. But, when you were young your parents probably did not buy you everything you wanted. You do not need to pay for every single thing they buy, especially if they are irresponsible spenders.

My dad died a couple of years ago. I was his caregiver the last couple of ears of his life as he deteriorated frrom Alzheimers and leukemia. I don't know if I owed it to him, but I made sure he was in the best nursing home even after all his money was gone. And I kept him at home with round the clock care until it became too much. He brought me into this world. The least I can do is make it easier for him to leave.
