Before they can even read, almost one in four children in nursery school is learning a skill that even some adults have yet to master: using the Internet. Some 23 percent of children in nursery school — kids age 3, 4 or 5 — have gone online, according to the Education Department. By kindergarten, 32 percent have used the Internet, typically under adult supervision.

The numbers underscore a trend in which the largest group of new users of the Internet are kids 2 to 5. At school and home, children are viewing Web sites with interactive stories and animated lessons that teach letters, numbers and rhymes.

Thing is the internet is what gets people into computers... I started using a computer for my childish computer games only occasionally when I was like 5 or 6, before my family had internet. Once we got dial-up for the first time that was totally cool! This was when I was about 10. Once we got internet we soon switched to DSL for better speed and that really got me into computer stuff! Its amazing how much we use the internet nowadays, and THATS why kids are starting out with it so early in their lives! To learn the skills they need for researching and stuff.

We introduced our children to computers when they were two years old, or so. Their wasn't much on the internet for the older kids but they played with learning games.

We still don't let the younger three (13, 12, 9) have unlimited access. They have to use one of the two public (none of the kids can use my wife or my computer) computers in the house. The older two (17 & 18) have their own computers.
