Dear all, i am trying to learn thermodynamics and all is going well, but i have 2 questions to finish an assignment...no matter what i do the answer comes out very strange indeed. I know there are some clever people on this board so any help would be appreciated...but go through it slowly please...as i say i am a newbie!! 1/water is used to condense the vapour entering a condensor at the top of a distiller.calculate the flowrate of water required by the condenser from
1/inlet cooling water temp=14deg c
2/outlet cooling water temp=82 deg c
3/temp of vapour entering condenser=120 deg c
4/temp of condensed vapour out=110 deg c
5/boiling point of distillate=120 deg c
6/vapour supply flowrate=1000kg per hour
7/ specific heat capacity of water=4.18kjkg-1k-1
8/specific heat capacity of distillate=2.2kjkg-1k-1
9/specific latent heat of vapourisation of distillate=1400kjkg-1
assume that 15% of heat energy is lost to surroundings

problem 2
a heat exchanger is used to cool the liquid bottom product from a distillation coloumn.use the following to calculate the supply of cooling water to the heat exchanger
1/temp of cooling water in=15 deg c
2/temp of cooling water out=80deg c
3/temp of bottom product in=340 deg c
4/temp of bottom product out=50 deg c
5/rate of supply of bottom product=2000kgh-1
6/specific heat capacity of water=4.18kjkg-1k-1
7/specific heat capacity of bottom product=2.6kjkg-1k-1
assume 10% of heat energy is lost from the bottom product to atmosphere

thanks for any help at all...i have been going round in circles for over a week!!

No need to bother...i was making a stupid error...perseverance pays!
