If Ted Turner can bring back endangered bison by marketing their meat, maybe the Japanese can do the same for the extinct mammoth. A successful breeding program could allow them to replace scientific whaling with scientific pachyderm husbandry. Initially at least, a live mammoth would be more valuable than the restaurant variety.

I found this informative Wiki article on mammoths, but for some reason, unlike most other articles on the subject, there is no mention of extinction dates.

I'm quite fond of the idea. I don't know if the scientific or economic applications will make it worth the trouble, but I think it would be a great IT'S SCIENCE! BITCHES! moment for humanity.

They would do this if they could live in the ocean where they didn't need to feed them and fence them in. The Mammoths in our area are all but extinct. The meat is like shoe leather.

Mammoths in all areas are completely extinct, and have been for nearly 4,000 years. As for the palatability of pachyderm flesh, it was one of the factors that led to the extinction of mammoths, and presently threatens their modern day relatives.

Haven't you heard of the Lock Ness Monster? They all think that is extinct too! But it is not. And neither are the Mammoths!
In the Hokitika Wild Food Festival you can even drink the semen from the Bulls. I haven't tried it.

If one of your oral swabs test positive for mammoth semen then maybe I'll take your assertion of living mammoths seriously.

Funny thing the thought of it is disgusting yet in other ways it is nice.

If I had $10 I would rather by some Kina, I'd pass on the Mammoth semen every time.
It will never touch my lips!

If I had to swallow the entire 1-2 gallons of mammoth ejaculate to prove its existence, I would. It would be the most valuable load on the planet.

Sounds like you'd choke on the stuff. Might be the most valuable but it sure would be your undoing!
Have you ever seen a mammoth in mating mode they sure get hormoned up. Not the sort of animal you would want near the paper houses of Japan.

The extraction would surely involve some heavy duty restraints for a wild mammoth, but a domesticated variety would likely be more manageable. As for the ejaculate itself it may prove rather appetizing and nutritious.

Healthy semen (that is, cum produced by a well-nourished, disease-free male) may in fact be not only safe to eat, but actually good for you. Seminal fluid, the base of cum, is a veritable nutrient-rich soup. Semen is a source of highly concentrated, high-quality protein. In dietary terms, it's comparable to egg whites or gelatin.

Besides protein, semen contains high concentrations of some minerals, such as zinc, and trace amounts of other important nutrients, like calcium and magnesium. While you shouldn't depend on a shot of cum to get your recommended daily allowances of vitamins and minerals, swallowing semen on a regular basis can't hurt as a dietary supplement.

@RBBTY,
Are your mammoths a variation on the elephant theme?

If I understand the question, yes Elephants and mammoths would be similar.
