Has anyone been reading about the apparent gearing up for the magnetic pole shift? This is based on the anomaly in the southern atlantic ocean, they think that may signify the beginning of a reversal.

I'm very concerned that during this switch if it happens lots of bad things will happen, for one it would be like on star trek when the shields go down.. radiation may reach the surface. And it may also trigger volcanic activity... and I am downwind from yellowstone national park...

Anyone here have good information regarding the likelihood of that happening in our lifetime?

You live downwind from Yellowstone?!? Sorry to say, but I think you're screwed. I suggest keeping a magnetic compass with you at all times. When you see the shift occurring, immediately run north... err actually south... err maybe east if that is the old west and not the new north... I'm not really sure... I just know that you are screwed.

eh if it blows in my lifetime.. yeah I'm screwed...

Don't think the odds of that are high but who knows.. it may not ever blow again but then again the ground is still swelling isn't it?

Ha, Ha ....just think of all the lawsuits from all the Moms of all those lost Boys Scouts due to their "defective" Eddie Bauer Compasses.

It takes a huge amount of time for such a reversal to complete. See here

I read some interesting information about the magnetic pole shift here:

A magnetic pole reversal will occur on December 21 2012, this coincides with
the end of the long count Mayan calender.

The supporting evidence for this event is the newly mapped magnetic field
from Naval Research of the Milky Way Galaxy. The Galaxy's magnetic field essentially similar to a low height large diameter cylindrical magnet, with
the super massive black hole at the center of the galaxy that sets up it's
magnetic structure.

The Earth which lies closer to the outer edge of the galactic plane crosses
back and forth across the galactic equator every 12,500 years as it
travels around the outside diameter of the galaxy.

The poles of the Earth point in towards the center of the galaxy inline
with the flux of the galaxy, when the Earth crosses the galactic plane
it crosses into an area where the flux is reversed the Earth then
realigns itself with the new flux direction. The Earth actually physically
turns upside down, causing the sun to set in the east, as Greenland's
Eskimos told missionaries happened years ago to them.

Tsunamis and earthquakes will be present as well as changes to coastlines.

Is that the complete reversal takes only one day or does it take years but starts on that day?

Turnaround time: How long does a magnetic-field reversal take?
http://records.viu.ca/~earles/turnaround-time-apr04.htm
QUOTE
Clement has found that the upper limits of the durations for the four events studied (see first diagram) are approximately 8450 years (Upper Olduvai), 5900 years (Lower Jaramillo), 5700 years (Upper Jaramillo) and 6950 years (Lower Bruhnes).  The average transition period is just under 7000 years, but there is significant variation, from a minimum of 1800 years, to a maximum of 11800 years.  These variations in durations of the transitions are not random, but in fact are quite consistently related to latitude.

So from this comprehensive study it doesn't seem like an overnight event.
Has anyone else got information on this?

The reason why sediments show instant changes in magnetic alignment at
irregular intervals is because the Earth does not always realign itself physically
after crossing the galactic equator, what happens is there is an internal realignment
of the magnetic field in the inner core and the north pole becomes the south pole and
the Earth's physical position remains constant.

To tilt the world's axis 180 degrees will take less than a week. As prophesied in the Bible
and other religious text books, more importantly the pole shift is one of the
most prophesied events in the whole world.

And what are the words of the Bibical prophecy then?
Alien_God
This prophecy refers to the sinking of the stars from their natural position and the
movement of mountains and islands.

"I watched as he opened the sixth Seal there was a great earthquake. The sun
turned black like Sack made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, and
the stars in the sky fell to earth,as late figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a
strong wind, the sky receded like a scroll, rolling up, every mountain and island
removed from its place",(Revelation 6:12-14)

From an Islamic website

"Islam is the only religion that prophesies that the sun will rise in the west
instead of rising in the East, in the End Times"

One line of the Quran is interpreted by scholars as "Becoming a Believer,
will be of no benefit after the sun rises in the West"

I don't think that will happen this year ...
