We live in a new era: one where we are ruled by technology. It’s true that modernity has made things more convenient for us, it has also left us caught in a frenzy of fast-paced activity. With the kind of whirlwind lives we now lead, we do not find time to take care of ourselves. With overtime hours clocking in at work, mountains of papers to go through or lists of calls to make, who has time to think about Vitamin A or amino acids?

There are many ways which makes us to stay fit. Exercise equipment, workout manuals and videos, food supplements or vitamin pills are just a few of these. By all these we are able to maintain a well-balanced mind and body, in spite of the hustle and bustle we live in.

As we all know, staying healthy is not an option; it is a must. Amino Acids, Antioxidants, Vitamins A and D are some of the necessary elements that our body requires to stay fit… Here is how all the above can help us.

Amino Acids - Amino acids are termed the “building blocks” of proteins. They work in growing and repairing our cells, as well as in producing enzymes. There are two basic kinds of amino acids: essential and non-essential. The non-essentials are the amino acids that are naturally found in us, while the essentials are amino acids that we need to take from food. However, for amino acids to function properly, both essentials and non-essentials need to be present. A complete amino acid supplement would work best for us.

Antioxidants - Antioxidants are natural substances that can be found in our food. Bright-colored vegetables and fruits, like tomatoes, peaches, carrots and apricots, contain antioxidants. These substances prevent damage to our bodies caused by oxidation, lowering our chances for heart and neurological diseases. Antioxidants will even decrease the risk in some forms of cancer. Because of this, antioxidant supplements have been found to help maintain good health.

Vitamins A - Vitamins A and D are both known as fat-soluble vitamins. Vitamin A is commonly found in food, from two sources. One is in the animal products like liver and eggs and another is in leafy, green vegetables and fruits like mangoes, cantaloupes and papayas. Vitamin A plays an important role in promoting good eyesight and healthy skin, as well as in preventing heart diseases and boosting our immune system. Food containing Vitamin A also serves as antioxidants. To prevent vision problems, Vitamin A and Vitamin A supplements are ideal.

Vitamins D - Vitamin D is the vitamin which has been produced by being exposed to sunlight. Vitamin D forms naturally in the skin, and helps in maintaining our organs. A lot of food products are now being fortified with Vitamin D, especially for those who have little chances of getting direct sunlight. Vitamin D is also a key factor in bone growth and bone strength, because it supports calcium absorption. Diseases like rickets and osteoporosis can be prevented with enough Vitamin D and Vitamin D supplement intake.

And your point or question is......?

I have a problem with the word "antioxidant", as the main metabolic pathway, the Krebs cycle depends on Oxidation. You could say Potassium Cyanide is the perfect antioxidant from that point of view.

The same goes for the popular "free radicals" circulating your body, which the antioxidants supposedly "mop up". Free radicals exist for microseconds before reacting with some other chemical in the real world.

Too much pseudoscience is being bandied about these days, and seems to be creeping into real science!
