I think the 'general public' just needs to engage itself - towards understanding the scientific method. This is not especially about 'science', per se, but a method of extracting the truth from our observations, and that needs to apply to ALL of us, if we are ever to communicate in ways that are non-contradictory, 'war-like'.
We can expect a struggle between old ideas and new. It was ever thus, and guess what...new always wins because we exist in the new and therefore have to find new ways of existing within it!!
Glad you like this stuff. Thought you might!

Yes! I would definitely agree. I guess in some measure that is me (general public) taking an interest. I am not a schooled Scientist, but I want to know more about myself, others and our environment. My search inevitably led me to Science after exhausting Religion and other sources. A seamless transition when you honestly just want to know more about reality but are none too smart

I've never heard of Ted...
I shall have to investigate this resource further once I get home from work... Or as soon as my boss has a meeting to attend. (Whichever comes first.

It is the cross-over points between apparent 'extremes', where progress is most often made. There is very good and valid existential reason for this...
Think of 'man' and 'woman' producing 'offspring'. This analogy works for all things, if you simply observe it in a action. 'Balck' + 'white' does not = '2 blacks' or '2whites', but an altogether different kind of third thing...'grey'.
When waves of differing frequency meet, another frequency is formed that is a more complex amalgamation of the original two. Why do they 'meet' in the first place? - Because they are mutually attracted to each other, OR are forced together by a greater previous motion ('explosion', for example).
SU, the key word in your post was 'honesty'. This is also the 'key' to all kinds of understanding. Without it, there is no hope of ever understanding the Nature of Reality...because? - You are 'it'! And this is also why the position of some kind of 'exterior being', having created a world of 'separate' parts that 'magically' all work together, is a gross error of judgment.
It is not 'magic', nor 'supernatural', but the sheer beauty of existence in all its glory - with nothing 'added' or taken away, but in a state of 'motion'.
