Limit Comparison Test

say we have 1/(n-1) and we want to compare it to 1/n
This would require a lct but what confuses me is that the series that 1/(n-1) is being
compared to is harmonic (divergent) yet the book says something like "knowing
that the limit exists." Why would a divergent series have a limit?
