Japanese Government will establish an industry-academia-government research and development organization this year that will work to commercialize VR (virtual reality) television by 2020.

VR TV will enable images to be seen in 3-D from any angle at a quality equivalent to that offered by high-definition TVs, in addition to allowing viewers to feel and smell the objects they are watching. To simulate the sensation of touch, researchers are considering using means including ultrasound, electrical stimulation and wind pressure. For smells, the development of a device that mixes natural aromatic essences to recreate particular scents will likely be given a major focus.

Wow, Virtual Reality was all you heard about in the 90's, I'm glad that someone did something with it other than 'dactyl nightmare.'
Krazee
Can you imagine the realism possible in video games. That would be the greatest invention of all times

It's good that they are going to throw money at the holographic display problem, that's becoming a plausable tech as processors come up to scratch...
But this touch and smell business, urg. Reminds me of the recent sony patent application for transcranial stimulation using ultrasound! LOL How long do patents last anyhow? Lets hope this one does better than thier push for AI in the 80's.

Wow! Very astounding. I'm looking forward to that in the future. VR is something I've been dying to experience.

Okay think of this Imagine having a full censored suit that can track your movement... they are being used as of right now to make characters in games move more human like. What if they were to take those suits and put parts into them and make them force feedback... could you imagine yourself lying in a chair in say in Siberia and in the scenario your are in the Bahama's you can feel the wind blow softly on your skin you can see the ocean and hear the waves.. could you imagine the possibilities of being in a virtual world where there are no boundaries to what you could do???? MY A REAL LIFE MATRIX!!!! think about it the things we could do to make games more REAL. YOU could go into say Battlefield 2 modern combat walk around in a game climb into a tank an go cruising around... THE UNIMAGINABLE REALITY!!!! WHY haven't they started using those damn sensory suits for this by now?? who is the genius that didn't think of it???

Right now I am looking for information on VR Technology but when you run a search you come up with songs books stories... is there any information on how the research is going in the field of FULL integrated Virtual Reality not just sight BUT FULL body experience... is there a place to talk to someone please get back to me ASAP I want in on something that could REVOLUTIONIZE THE GAMING INDUSTRY... Hell Computer Technology period!!!
