Hi, is the question of whether or not self development is possible a little too vague? There are many ways promoted to achieve self development, but most genuine ones appear to require a better control over the mind. Is there any technique to gain more control over the way we think. I think Meditation is something that can increase mind power, which may be proportional to the ability to develop these skills. Any more suggestions on this???

An Australian court has given the go-ahead for a 13-year-old girl to undergo sex-change treatment, in a landmark judgment that has ignited fierce public debate.

The child, known only as Alex, is to begin hormone treatment and will be allowed to have surgery when she turns 18. It is the first time that a child in Australia has been authorised to have a sex change on purely psychiatric, rather than biological, grounds.

Mediation is certainly helpful in increasing mind power. There are some other ways in which you can transform your thinking process and influence the mind, which results in better control. Applied quantum theory can also be taken in account when talking about self development. According to that school of thought we experience we think, reflect on, believe in, etc. – in every minute detail. There is much information available on the web about Quantum Wealth and Mind Power. Hope that link helps you out!

Hello clark, elden and BIG...
You might be beyond any real assist big Fairy....anyone with such magalo tendencies is far to high up, for the lowly pion to be able to reach. Hope it isn't too terribly lonely up there for you.

Self development, self actualization is a valuable idea to entertain, and the resulting goals that follow any course of study or contemplation, can be extremely rewarding, and an end worth working toward. Meditation is certainly a way to increase serenity, balance and overall...lends more personal wealth in the form of health, and well being. There are many other ways to advance, personally as well...exercise can be a very important factor, to evolving as much as one can, in a lifetime. I like to meditate while exercising, myself...and at other times as well, such as washing dishes or cleaning house.

It is good to be quiet, and focus on the task at hard, not allowing things to distract while you are meditating. I turn off the phone, and concentrate on the one thing alone...it is very soothing and makes the work an easy thing to complete. If I were still in Hawaii I would probably pick coffee and macadamia nuts again...those are great times to meditate, out in nature...doing something easy and repetitive...it is so easy to turn off the thoughts, and just BE, then.

Meditation for so many seems to mean sitting in lotus or semi~lotus and trying to still the mind, but that has never worked out for me, I found a way that did work, as described above. Here is a link that someone in here turned me onto a while back...I will go check the links that you have provided here, elden, as well.

Try to ignore BIGFAIRY if you can, he is sort of like herpes...he may be gone for a while, but he'll be back to try and burn and irritate you, all too soon.

"Self-development" has different meanings to different people. If you're looking at it from the psychobabble perspective, you can do a lot of things that will confuse you into thinking you've achieved a higher level of spirituality, but real self-development (in terms that most realistic people will agree on) takes education, effort, and persistance.

Think a moment about Gov. Arnold - He developed his body through a dedicated regimen of lifting weights. Then he set his goals to become an actor, with little natural talent going for him, and eventually became a moderately-adequate actor (also the highest-paid actor in Hollywood), then pursued politics and became governor of California. (Eventually, he'll get good at that, too, if his history is any indicator).

You can develop your intelligence through education, which takes effort and dedication, you can sculpt your body like Arnold did, you can lose weight by modifying your diet and exercising first if that's what's bothering you.

Meditation is popular among the people who would like to be different but don't like the idea of expending any effort. If that's the path you choose, good luck!

There is no such technique to gain more control over the way we think :-) We have to increase the will power and concentration to achieve the same !!

What do you want to become?

I discovered truth through physics. I realize that it is God's design that we may learn the same truth through whatever vocation we may choose like art and literature.
