Hello All,
I have an interview coming up in a few days with a Pharmaceutical company in the production department. I would really appreciate it if someone could offer a few suggestions on how to answer this common interview question

What are your weaknesses?

CE, Easy, if you want the job - all you need to say in this box; is that you tend to put too much effort into your work/ that you frequently put in too many hours/ that you're a highly critical perfectionist whose demands on his self are often exhausting - stuff like that! - this question always appears and is designed to let applicants shoot themselves in the head, by writing the aforementioned type of material you make their little 'trap' actually backfire. laugh.gif

- Oh yeah, just lie a lot! laugh.gif

Identify something that is of no relevance to the job - e.g. you would like to be a musician, writer or something like that but you have realised that you lack the imagination for that sort of thing. Also, pause and pretend to be searching for an answer for a few moments - makes it sound credible.
Actually I did quite a lot of interviewing in the course of my career and I never once asked this question - it´s a product of the nonsense you find in modern HR.
Good luck with the interview

All good answers men, (X20 you're a riot! and Edward : "my weakness is baking cakes" would have me fall off my chair!),
Seriously, though, I've found that you should answer honestly with something that's not too damaging and almost says 'I work too hard' like "I tend to get a little disorganized when I try to tackle alot at once. I could work on my organizational skills."
Just a thought,
Peace,
Ron

Ron's hit the nail on the head; follow up a non-damaging weakness with a plan you've got (doesn't have to be rigourous) of how to improve in that area. A weakness is actually a development opportunity!!! smile.gif

I never wanted to work in a pharmaceutical company, I wanted to be a lumberjack! Leaping from tree to tree as I float down the mighty rivers of British Columbia.

But seriously, you don't even have to lie. Say you wish you were a billionaire and that you didn't have to work. By the here fact that your in an interview, however, means that you are reality oriented and not clinging to fantasies.

An obvious weakness is you turn to an internet physics forum for advice on a personal question.

To reject an idea you must first consider it a possibility.

Lying was already suggested in this thread.

When you are dealing with HR types, you have to lie - they don´t do reality

Wait! C'mon, your not giving up are you? Your philosophical mind is vastly superior to mine. I expected to be trashed by your intellect 5 hours ago. I'm waiting to submit to you Lord... you are not the messiah.
