Neat they are cooling the atoms in the beam ~ while it travels ~ as to keep them more compact.

What does that help to prove?

Yes - but does it not also state that the idea of mass 'flattening out' (Going Oblate) as it approaches lightspeed ~ is actually wrong ~ and it (that perception) was simply due to-based upon heating effects?

No. The ion group would look even less flattened were it not for relativistic flattening.
