Rural Electrification has proved to be a great boon to the environment and civilization by slowing world urbanization. Rural broadband has lagged behind however. Synchronous satellite systems introduce too much delay for VOIP and many other interactive services, limiting their value. Low-earth orbit sat systems have not materialized. The suggested "white space" utilization may serve well to fill this gap. (Personal experience: I have a cabin in the mountains far from cable or broadband wireless service. There are too many trees blocking view to satellites. Yet I can receive HDTV broadcasts from as far away as 60 miles with no more than HDTV-ready "rabbit ears"! It seems like this technology could help!)
