A tiny worm that lives in glaciers and snowfields is drawing attention for what it could reveal about life on other planets.

The ice worm inhabits glacial regions in the coastal ranges of Alaska, British Columbia, Washington and Oregon. The odd creature easily moves through ice, is liveliest near the freezing point of water and dissolves into a goo when warmed.

There's been increased interest in ice worms and other animals whose glacial habitat could disappear within the next 50 years due to global warming.

Life forms are nothing more than self propelled conglomerations of molecules. Intelligence is nothing more than the collective fundamental "behaviors" that all matter possess. Much like quantum physics gives way to newtonian physics in the macro world. Wherever there is matter, "life" will almost inevitably form, unless conditions are sufficiently disruptive to prevent it.

I always find it funny when some illuminated beings answer questions that have been discussed for centuries in such a childish and simplistic way.

That is because you have a confused mind. The complexity is only there because your mind is disordered. At its core, everything in the universe is simple. It's the human mind's inability to really understand and describe things that make scientific pursuit seem so difficult. But in the future, humans will accumulate enough knowledge to really understand these things... and it will be a revelation no less than the biblical one. Life doesn't require the Goldilocks Protocol. Contrary to Gould's assertion that life will take completely different forms when you restart the process, life actually takes an inevitable, inescapable path. Just as hydrogen decays into helium and on to more and more complex/disordered forms of matter, life is just an inevitable step in that process.

You write with such an arrogance about such a complex topic that Im assuming god told you all you know and everyone except you is wrong, and because god told you this you dont need to prove anything!

Maybe then you could explain me why it takes a person so many years to understand quantum mechanics or other "simple" things. And also considering its simple then you should help us mortal beings and get rid of all the disordered and confusing complexity scientists have came up with.

And your proofs/argumentations are? Im sorry to tell you that affirming something is no proof or argument in favor of it at least in logical terms but thats something you probably never heard about.

Typical of someone very bright. When elemental minds cant give a logical argument in favor of what they say they make use of analogies thinking that an analogy is the actual proof. Again Im sorry to tell you that analogies are not proofs. Maybe you are right that there are "simple" things in the universe and after all you dont need proofs for that because you are the actual proof.

Your kind is seen very often in these forums. People of your kind infect the forums with their grandiose delusion and pathological lying and they always do the same.
1. They say that a very complex topic that has been discussed for centuries by the most intelligent people in human history is actually something very simple (grandiose delusion) and that everyone before them is wrong (even though they dont know anything about the people who have discussed these topics before).
2. They show no proofs but instead make an oracular prediction. In the future everyone will understand me and appreciate me, even though I have said something with many interpretations and I have no proof for it.
3. They make a radically simplistic affirmation and "prove" it making an analogy with one of the millions of things nature has to offer us, trying to make us think everything in nature is like the example chosen.

These forums are absolutely ruined by people like you who show no respect for the work of thousands of scientists and thinkers that preceded us. If there was some moderation in this worthless website you should be banned.

Your poor wounded bureaucratic mind... don't hate me because I happen to possess the DNA snippet that codes for an agile mind. In the end we all benefit from it. You and I might appear to be different mushrooms, but we are all part of one humongous fungus underneath.... LOL!

Contrary to what your bureaucratic mind tells you, not one of the great discoveries in human history is a product of tedious, plodding toil. They have all been inspirations and leaps of logic. Single-minded diligence is very highly overrated.

Not one thing in nature is a result of a long slow change. That thinking only arose from people like you misunderstanding Darwin's theory.

Just because dull stupid people have considered these problems for centuries without success, it doesn't mean I have to be as stupid as they are. We will all see they have been wrong all these years fairly soon. You don't have to wait till your next lifetime (providing you're not so old you'll croak tomorrow). Those people fool themselve into thinking these are complex problems to make themselves look intelligent.

Quantum mechanics is simple... if you understand it. If you don't it's hopeless. Nobody can make you understand it.

You are a true man of science... you would ban anyone who would disagree with your beliefs. You must be an "intelligent design" theorist LOL!

Did some sacred cow swim out of the Ganges and tell you how hydrogen decays UPWARDS to a higher atomic mass?

snorin Pug... obviously you have not looked at the Buddhist periodic table or tried any of the Buddhist herbs they used when building it...

and... once things are explained, and learned, one often realizes how simple they are.

and, also, yeah, hydrogen does not decay... I think it fuses to form helium, but yeah, it is an inevitable path, at least in stars, anyways...

now, back on topic, I've always laughed at how scientists look for life. these worms tell us that life might not be how one envisions it, or the way it is on earth. nice read tho...
bmcghie
I want more info as to how the worms tunnel!
Here is your hydrogen fusion, if anyone is confused...
H1 + H1 --> H2 + (e+) + electron neutrino
H2 + H1 --> He3 + gamma ray
He3 + He3 --> He4 + 2 H1

(Sorry, numbers after the atomic symbol should be subscript)

The "without success" part is your personal opinion. Einstein considered the problem of relative motion of charged bodies for seven years and that led to relativity. Is he dull and stupid because it took him so much time and because he ended up with something more complex than newtonian mechanics?

Im not interested in your crystal ball reading skills. Stop repeating yourself.
If those problems are not so complex and you notice they are easy why dont you give the solution to many unanswered problems? After all they are simple arent they?

Do you notice you just repeated your previous post? Well your previous post spiced with mind-reading abilities and any kind of insults including foreign ones.
You ignored the main question of my previous post so please answer it the next time.

I think it is safe to say that no one understands Quantum Mechanics. Do not say to yourself, if you can possibly avoid it. "But how can it be like that ," because you will go down the drain into a blind alley from which nobody has yet escaped. Nobody knows how it can be like that. -- Richard Feynman

If your intelligence can be deduced from the quality of your posts then its easy to notice you are not as intelligent as Feynman.

You are in my opinion just a religious spammer.
