If we do not understand dark matter or dark energy how can we theorize that this particle exists? Unless of course they (matter and energy) have no effect or relationship to this particle in which case I am an idiot!!

Because we have observed them through their effects in nature.

Funny, I don't recall saying that. Those are two scientific mysteries, as in, we don't know the answer yet. "We don't know" is not the same thing as "god did it."
