Newsflash, miniature fuel cells:

This is Hayward Harboon reporting from paranoia.com and I asking the key question since humans fear everything, would it be possible to engineer a miniature fuel cell of some sort of configuration, that in a simui ilar fashion would provide power to a walking robot, as in the movie Terminator Three, Rise Of The Machines?

I know as I sit here in my studio, by self concern and fear, that anything that is going to happen, in the next few second possibly could.

This is why I am under my desk, right this minute, cringing with fear.

What say you?Have you ever been frightened by a fierce poodle on Sunday Morning, or have thought that the two cute little girls selling lemonade at their lemonade stand, were putting strange drugs in it, for a secret government?

Well then this fear section of phys.org is for you.

Do you think that they can go this small and if they do, will a fuel cell with so much power, do the unthinkable?

Oh the terror, oh the joy, I just went out and bought a new toy!

Hey, Phillip -

We're a loooooooong way from commercially available fuel cells for several reasons:

1. The methanol ones used now are realllllllllly flammmable.
2. The nonsense that the Bush admin. is talking about w/r/t H2 fuel cells is screwy b/z:
a) H2 is reallllllllly flammable
cool.gif We have no commercially reasonable, safe way of storing it (the storage method of choice is inside a solid).
3. Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), which is what my research group works on, have an operating temperature problem - they work fine at over 900ºC - too bad any material you try to hold the pieces together degrades, melts, or catches fire at those temps.
4. The biological FCs that are increasingly gaining ground are still wayyyyyy too low in terms of power output
