Heater Plug

Hi all

i was unplugging a heater that had been running for a couple of hours and , of course the plug and cord were hot. I understand why the cord will be hot, but don't know why this only affected the first six inches past the plug.
the cord is about a meter and a half and has no earth pin.The cord is a uniform thickness
